From just the SN? Is there a DB or something that Sig has? I bought a certified used P229 and was curious as to when it was produced.

how much you bought certified used P229? I'm interesting to buy it
I bought mine from Bud's:

https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog...talog/product_info.php/products_id/50975/Sig+Sauer+*Preowned*+P229+12+++1+40S&W

With Make an Offer I paid $546 cash. Note that while the pic says P229 Elite, it's random as to what you get. Mine was not an Elite, but it is railed. Each is different, so it's luck of the draw.

Also available from Tombstone Tactical for a bit more:

https://www.tombstonetactical.com/c...r/ude229-40-b1-p229-pistol-40sw-3.9in-10rd-black-certified-used-good-condition/

Note those are 10 round capacity. Don't know if that's a CA/MA model, or just that the mags are only low cap.

Ha, didn't realize the sticker on the box had the year. According to the sticker, it was manufactured in June of 2015. Not sure if that was the manufacture date, or date is was certified, but assuming it was the manufacture date.

Also, it was listed as Excellent condition. The Tombstone Tactical models are Good condition. I would definitely recommend going with Bud's.

Best, easiest, fastest way is to call Sig Customer Service. The sticker on the box was probably the re-certification date.

Just FYI, my 1994 229-40 has a S/N of AD252XX

I don't know if SIG CS has the original manufacturing date for CPO pistols. They may only have the date when the pistol was certified. At least that is what I think I recall one member here related.

Also be aware that with CPO SIGs you may not have the original slide or barrel because they may have been replaced during the refurbishing process so the date of manufacture may apply only to the frame.

There is a serial number list on that other forum of the different SIG P-series pistols owned by members there with dates of manufacture, or in the case of some early P229s, which are made in the U.S. and don't have German proof date codes, the original purchase dates. Most of the "AL" prefixed P229s on that list don't have dates, but the "AK"s before are dated 2000, and the "AM"s are dated 2003-2009. I was going to guess your P229 was originally made between 2000 and 2003, but there is one P229 on that list with an AL5xxxx serial number dated Oct. 2008.

You can also check the inside of the grip panels for a date clock. If the grips are the original ones (they may also have been replaced during the CPO process), the date clocks tell when the grip was made and can give you an approximation of the manufacturing date pf the gun.

yeah that seems about right.. it was inherited, so have this and a couple others. But was curious on the 357 since it seems to be a gun that doesn't really seem to come up for sale often. I would never sell the one I have, but its lack of records made me question it.

I appreciate your guys help.. suppose I'll have to take the grips off and check what date is notated. Honestly it seemed like maybe less then 100 rounds had been put through it when I got my hands on it through unfortunate circumstances. But maybe I'll have to look into how old my other Sigs are now knowing this was an early one.

.357 Sig did not come out here until later in 1994... that'a why in a recent thread, I commented, I had yet to see an early "Pre-Ban" Sauer & Sohn Magazine with the branding showing the .357 in addition to the .40, that is not a "Restricted" Magazine.

While most Federal LE went to .40 S&W initially, that's why you see more of them.
