I currently have a standard P365 w/ manual safety. I love it and carry it daily with 12-rd mag in a Crossbreed Mini-Tuck holster.

What I'm curious about, and didn't find my answer on SIG's website... what are the differences between the different models? Standard 365 vs 365X vs 365XL vs "a thousand other versions"?

I can sorta figure the XL has a longer slide by the pics on the SIG website, and the "comp" models have built-in compensator, but what about the other variants? Is there a side-by-side comparison somewhere?

Thanks!
P365*: The standard P365 is a compact, subcompact pistol designed for concealed carry. It typically has a flush-fit magazine with a capacity of 10 rounds. The P365 is known for its small size, making it easy to conceal while still offering a decent capacity for its size.

P365X*: The P365X is an upgraded version of the P365, offering additional features and enhancements. It usually comes with a longer slide and barrel, providing better accuracy and sight radius. The P365X often includes features like an optics-ready slide, a flat trigger, and improved ergonomics compared to the standard P365.

P365XL*: The P365XL is a larger variant of the P365 series, designed for those who prefer a slightly bigger pistol with a longer grip and increased magazine capacity. The P365XL typically comes with a 12-round magazine and offers a longer slide and barrel than the standard P365, providing improved accuracy and control.

In summary, the standard P365 is compact and ideal for concealed carry, the P365X offers enhancements like an optics-ready slide and improved ergonomics, while the P365XL is larger with increased capacity and a longer grip.

The Sig options can be overwhelming so pre-purchase independent research or a truly customer focused salesperson is essential. The good news, and it sounds that you have already discovered it, is that whatever you bought can generally be reconfigured - at a price of course.
Once I totaled up what I spent, that’s when I realized I could’ve gotten the X and just purchased a smaller grip frame 😂

Also due to me browsing the Sig website in the middle of the night, I purchased an XMacro frame thinking I was getting the X/XL frame smh. Eventually I will purchase a longer slide for the extra frame.

I wish I would’ve found this detailed description before I purchased my standard P365! I wanted something smaller than my Canik TP9 SC elite to EDC. Didn’t realize I could’ve purchased the X or the XL and gotten increased mag capacity right out the box. I ended up buying the 12 round mags plus the X frame from Sig also.
Not an option for some of us in 10 capacity mag states.

Sig marketing doesn't seem to have any problem changing/adding designations when releasing new models which makes tracking what is what complicated.

Currently... there are 4 grips:
  • standard - proprietary rail, 10 rd flush mags
  • X - proprietary rail, 12 rd flush mags
  • Macro - 1913 rail, 17rd flush-ish mags
  • AXG Legion - aluminum, g10 scales, 1913 rail, 17rd mags
    • slight difference in 1913 rail affects XMacro holster compatibility
and 3 barrel lengths:
  • 3.1"
  • 3.7"
  • 4.3"
and 5 slides (more if you count the optic plate variations):
  • original ('short'): takes 3.1" barrel and uses a double spring RSA
    • revised for the 365X to include an optic plate
    • SAS slide is ported and has different slide release and sights
  • L ('long'): takes 3.7" barrel and uses a single spring RSA
    • original L slide has the rear sight included in the optic plate
      • usually these are marked 'XL'
    • revised L slide has the rear sight separate from the optic plate
  • Spectre/Macro Comp: 3.1" barrel in 3.7" slide with integral comp using the single spring RSA, optic ready
    • 'comp' slides have suppressor height sights (usually)
    • 'comp' slides are dimensionally identical to the L slide and fit the same holsters
  • 380: lightened 3.1" slide using a 380-specific barrel and double spring RSA, optic ready
  • FUSE: long slide using the 4.3" barrel and longer, single-spring RSA, optic ready.
The various released models mix and match the slides and grips:
  • 365: standard grip and 3.1" slide/barrel
  • 365 SAS: standard grip and 3.1" slide/barrel (with special porting, controls and sights)
  • 365 XL: X grip and 3.7" barrel and one of the 3.7" optic-ready L slides
  • 365 X: X grip and 3.1" barrel and the 3.1" optic-ready slide
  • 365 XL Spectre: X grip and 3.7" L slide
    • slide has cosmetic differences: serrations, cut outs, distressed finish
  • 365 XL SpectreComp: X grip and 3.7" comp'ed slide
    • cosmetics: gold TiN controls, 'Sig Custom Works' engraved slide
    • laser stippled grip
  • 365-380: standard grip with 380 barrel and slide
  • 365 XMacro(Comp): macro grip and 3.7" comp'ed slide
    • released as the XMacro but called XMacroComp after the TacOps was released
  • 365 XMacro TacOps: macro grip and 3.7" non-comp L slide
  • 365 AXG Legion: AXG grip and 3.7" comp slide
  • 365 FUSE: XMacro grip and 4.3" slide/barrel/RSA
    • one 17rd and two 21rd mags
So, the model decoder (up to this point) is:
  • 'X' designates 12rd grip, flat trigger and optic ready slide
  • 'L' designates the 3.7" barrel and slide
  • 'Macro' designates the 17rd grip module
  • 'Comp' designates the 3.1" barrel and optic ready integral comp slide
  • 'MS' in the SKU indicates a factory installed manual safety
  • 'SAS' (Sig Anti Snag) has a unique fibre optic sight, minimized controls and a ported barrel/slide
    • the ported barrel was phased out relatively quickly
  • 'Rose' designates rose-colored TiN controls and packaging applied to regular models
  • 'TacOps' package includes extra mags (more than the standard 2)
  • 'TacPac' includes extra mags and a holster
  • 'AXG Legion' uses an aluminum grip module with Legion graphics, challenge coin
  • 'FUSE' currently indicates the long 4.3" barrel/slide on the XMacro grip
Magazines
  • capacities
    • 10 rd (9mm or .380)
    • 12 rd (9mm or .380)
    • 15 rd - discontinued after 17rd mag was released
    • 17 rd
    • 21 rd - extra capacityfrom a longer magazine body not an extended base plate
  • 365-380 mag differences
    • marked with '.380' instead of '9mm'
    • have a plastic spacer inside the spring coils
    • have slightly different feed lips
    • 9mm mags can be used with 365-380s
      • not supported by Sig but those who have tried reported success
    • .380 mags can be used for 9mm if the plastic spacer in the spring coil is removed
      • again, not supported but works
+2 kits (flat spring + baseplate) are available for the 10, 12 and 15 rd mag bodies:
MagGuts +2 kits (works with 9mm and .380 mag bodies)
+2/+3 kits are available for the 17 rd body

Generally speaking
  • 365 FCUs may be fitted with the optional manual safety
    • the FCU requires a grip module with safety cutouts if the safety is installed
    • the required safety cutouts are marked on Sig grip modules
      • jigs are also available
    • XMacro grips, being slightly wider, may need additional relief for the safety levers
  • 365 FCUs fit any grip module
    • the FCU is available separately, as a standalone component, in gold TiN or plain black (nitride, not TiN)
  • 365 slides are interchangeable
    • meaning a complete slide assembly will work on any FCU/grip
      • for example taking the 365X slide and using it on a XMacro grip+FCU
    • not all barrels are compatible with all slides
      • 365-380 3.1" barrel only works in the 365-380 slide
      • 3.7" barrel works in the 3.7" non-comp 'L' slide
        • also works in the short slide - like a threaded barrel with no threads
      • 3.1" barrel does not work in the 3.7" non-comp 'L' slide
  • longer mags work in shorter grips
    • spacers are available to fill the gap between base plate and pistol grip
    • base plates are available for shorter mags so they work in longer grips
  • holster compatibility is determined by overall slide length and type of rail
That's an impressive and comprehensive answer. Thank you for posting this.

"wxl, 365X is same length bbl as 365"

Great thread, but it's still left me wondering. In 2022, I bought a P365. It came with two 12 rd magazines with the sleeve to work with the standard P365. Not a fan of extended mags and preferring a longer grip, in 2023 I ordered an XL grip module from Sig. I just looked up the order, and it says GRIP MODULE, 365XL ASSY, MANUAL SAFETY, BLK. SKU is 8900262. The grip module fits properly, is the same length as my P365 slide and barrel and accommodates the Sig Lima Laser like it was made for it.

This thread left me wondering, though, since it sounds like the XL goes with a 3.7" barrel. So today, I measured the barrel, and it is, tip to tip, 3.1 inches. I even found my original purchase invoice from Able's Sporting Goods in Huntsville, TX, and it confirmed a P365 3.1 inch. I don't know what to think. If XL is a 3.7", and what Sig shipped to me fits, is it possible that the Sig shipping guy looked up my serial number and saw that I really needed an X grip module and substituted? Everything works, so model numbers and part numbers I suppose don't matter, but still...

The P365X and P365XL grip modules are the same.

SKU 8900262, corresponding to UPC 798681638024, is listed on Sig Sauer's site as "P365X/XL 9MM/380 MANUAL SAFETY GRIP MODULE - BLACK":

Your firearm's serial number is only designated for the FCU.

Hope that helps.

I'm shopping around for a pistol right now and the wealth of model numbers is a pain to sort through. Not really a mark against Sig, but online outlets will throw up listings that have pictures that don't necessarily match the model numbers and their descriptions are too generic. Am I getting day/night sights or contrast sights, does it have the red dot or not? It's all a guess. I'd buy local but their inventory around here is very limited.

Great post and a lot of good information.
Maybe it isn't practical to include some of the other individual models' features.

-The Fuse has a fiber optic front sight and rather narrow gab no dot rear. They are suppressor height and can be used through an EPS carry.
-It, the X-Macro Tacops, and the Legion all come w/ an installed mag funnel that can be retrofitted on other macro grips.
-The macro grips are slightly wider and also take replaceable back straps and have a different extended mag release w/ its own spring cap design.
-The Fuse currently seems to have(?) its own laser etched grip and a slightly different beaver tail. I haven't been able to find it for sale separately. It does include the outlines needed for the cutout and thinning needed to install the manual external safety.
- The fuse comes w/ a different colored flat trigger (for some reason(?)) and, I believe, an extended mag release and slide lock levers.

The EPS carry I have didn't fit securely w/o its included plate :(.

I found a few different versions of some of the p365 pistols. The only one I remember of my head is a (maybe police only) Fuse ms. It has the non laser textured grip and Xray3 sights though I cannot tell if they're tall enough to co witness.

Well, if the FUSE wasn't the largest so far im the p365 line, another version would still have to be, likely the p365 Legion (which may be widest p365 even w/ the Fuse release. It matter enough to me either way to look it up. They cannot all the the smallest or there would only ever be ine size.

Ultimate concealability may not be as important to all potential users as much as maybe a more efficient design for duty, range, home defense pistols, or all these CCW but they like the flexibility SIG's FCU pistol lines offer but like the looks or the significantly smaller size for the same mag capacity as other full sized models, including the p320.and c. To me, there's nothing wrong w/ Sig releasing them if there are ppl who wish to own them. The FCU system can easily allow someone to swap out the grip for the more svelt, non-laser textured version or for one with a smaller grip for if or when they choose to carry their p365. Some may decide this is obviously stupid as they personally would just buy a separate dedicated pistol for each. To each their own.

I bought a standard P365 in 2018. Carried it almost every day. It was a good gun but I sold it this week . I am going to get a H&K CC9. After breakin it will be my EDC along with my P938 Legion

New to this site. Thanks for the comprehensive posts

Below is a list of optical sights to the Shield Reflex Mini Sight/Compact (RMSc) footprint/mounting standard that will fit directly to any P365 optic ready slide.

This list isn't exhaustive; if you are shopping for a sight, check if it mentions "RMSc" footprint, and you should be good to go.

Sig Romeo Zero
Sig Romeo Zero Elite
Sig Romeo X Compact
Holosun 407k/507k
Holosun EPS Carry*
Jpoint
Shield RMSc
Swampfox Sentinel
Springfield Armory Hex Wasp
Vortex Defender CCW
Vector Optics Frenzy

*The Holosun EPS will fit also, but it's more of a double stack optic width, and will overhang a bit on a P365 slide.
Thanks for this post
