Difference in P365 Models?

I currently have a standard P365 w/ manual safety. I love it and carry it daily with 12-rd mag in a Crossbreed Mini-Tuck holster.

What I'm curious about, and didn't find my answer on SIG's website... what are the differences between the different models? Standard 365 vs 365X vs 365XL vs "a thousand other versions"?

I can sorta figure the XL has a longer slide by the pics on the SIG website, and the "comp" models have built-in compensator, but what about the other variants? Is there a side-by-side comparison somewhere?

Thanks!

Sig marketing doesn't seem to have any problem changing/adding designations when releasing new models which makes tracking what is what complicated.

Currently... there are 4 grips:
  • standard - proprietary rail, 10 rd flush mags
  • X - proprietary rail, 12 rd flush mags
  • Macro - 1913 rail, 17rd flush-ish mags
  • AXG Legion - aluminum, g10 scales, 1913 rail, 17rd mags
    • slight difference in 1913 rail affects XMacro holster compatibility
and 3 barrel lengths:
  • 3.1"
  • 3.7"
  • 4.3"
and 5 slides (more if you count the optic plate variations):
  • original ('short'): takes 3.1" barrel and uses a double spring RSA
    • revised for the 365X to include an optic plate
    • SAS slide is ported and has different slide release and sights
  • L ('long'): takes 3.7" barrel and uses a single spring RSA
    • original L slide has the rear sight included in the optic plate
      • usually these are marked 'XL'
    • revised L slide has the rear sight separate from the optic plate
  • Spectre/Macro Comp: 3.1" barrel in 3.7" slide with integral comp using the single spring RSA, optic ready
    • 'comp' slides have suppressor height sights (usually)
    • 'comp' slides are dimensionally identical to the L slide and fit the same holsters
  • 380: lightened 3.1" slide using a 380-specific barrel and double spring RSA, optic ready
  • FUSE: long slide using the 4.3" barrel and longer, single-spring RSA, optic ready.
The various released models mix and match the slides and grips:
  • 365: standard grip and 3.1" slide/barrel
  • 365 SAS: standard grip and 3.1" slide/barrel (with special porting, controls and sights)
  • 365 XL: X grip and 3.7" barrel and one of the 3.7" optic-ready L slides
  • 365 X: X grip and 3.1" barrel and the 3.1" optic-ready slide
  • 365 XL Spectre: X grip and 3.7" L slide
    • slide has cosmetic differences: serrations, cut outs, distressed finish
  • 365 XL SpectreComp: X grip and 3.7" comp'ed slide
    • cosmetics: gold TiN controls, 'Sig Custom Works' engraved slide
    • laser stippled grip
  • 365-380: standard grip with 380 barrel and slide
  • 365 XMacro(Comp): macro grip and 3.7" comp'ed slide
    • released as the XMacro but called XMacroComp after the TacOps was released
  • 365 XMacro TacOps: macro grip and 3.7" non-comp L slide
  • 365 AXG Legion: AXG grip and 3.7" comp slide
  • 365 FUSE: XMacro grip and 4.3" slide/barrel/RSA
    • one 17rd and two 21rd mags
So, the model decoder (up to this point) is:
  • 'X' designates 12rd grip, flat trigger and optic ready slide
  • 'L' designates the 3.7" barrel and slide
  • 'Macro' designates the 17rd grip module
  • 'Comp' designates the 3.1" barrel and optic ready integral comp slide
  • 'MS' in the SKU indicates a factory installed manual safety
  • 'SAS' (Sig Anti Snag) has a unique fibre optic sight, minimized controls and a ported barrel/slide
    • the ported barrel was phased out relatively quickly
  • 'Rose' designates rose-colored TiN controls and packaging applied to regular models
  • 'TacOps' package includes extra mags (more than the standard 2)
  • 'TacPac' includes extra mags and a holster
  • 'AXG Legion' uses an aluminum grip module with Legion graphics, challenge coin
  • 'FUSE' currently indicates the long 4.3" barrel/slide on the XMacro grip
Magazines
  • capacities
    • 10 rd (9mm or .380)
    • 12 rd (9mm or .380)
    • 15 rd - discontinued after 17rd mag was released
    • 17 rd
    • 21 rd - extra capacityfrom a longer magazine body not an extended base plate
  • 365-380 mag differences
    • marked with '.380' instead of '9mm'
    • have a plastic spacer inside the spring coils
    • have slightly different feed lips
    • 9mm mags can be used with 365-380s
      • not supported by Sig but those who have tried reported success
    • .380 mags can be used for 9mm if the plastic spacer in the spring coil is removed
      • again, not supported but works
+2 kits (flat spring + baseplate) are available for the 10, 12 and 15 rd mag bodies:
MagGuts +2 kits (works with 9mm and .380 mag bodies)
+2/+3 kits are available for the 17 rd body

Generally speaking
  • 365 FCUs may be fitted with the optional manual safety
    • the FCU requires a grip module with safety cutouts if the safety is installed
    • the required safety cutouts are marked on Sig grip modules
      • jigs are also available
    • XMacro grips, being slightly wider, may need additional relief for the safety levers
  • 365 FCUs fit any grip module
    • the FCU is available separately, as a standalone component, in gold TiN or plain black (nitride, not TiN)
  • 365 slides are interchangeable
    • meaning a complete slide assembly will work on any FCU/grip
      • for example taking the 365X slide and using it on a XMacro grip+FCU
    • not all barrels are compatible with all slides
      • 365-380 3.1" barrel only works in the 365-380 slide
      • 3.7" barrel works in the 3.7" non-comp 'L' slide
        • also works in the short slide - like a threaded barrel with no threads
      • 3.1" barrel does not work in the 3.7" non-comp 'L' slide
  • longer mags work in shorter grips
    • spacers are available to fill the gap between base plate and pistol grip
    • base plates are available for shorter mags so they work in longer grips
  • holster compatibility is determined by overall slide length and type of rail

So, the model decoder (up to this point) is:
  • "X" designates a flat trigger and optic ready slide
  • "L" designates the 12rd grip module

While I like your list, it doesn't jive with the P365X which has what you call the "L" frame but is marked X, not L. It seems "X" refers to the longer frame while "L" refers to the longer 3.7" barrel.

Also don't forget the P365-380, which as of this writing is only available in the standard format with a 3.1" barrel and 10rd grip frame. While the upper assembly is different, the entire lower including FCU is the same as a standard P365 so you can mix n' match lowers.

(ETA: somebody posted something similar to what is below recently but I couldn't find it... maybe we should combine and create a sticky?)

Sig marketing doesn't seem to have any problem changing/adding designations when releasing new models which makes tracking what is what complicated.

Currently...
Great info.

I know everyone will call out, "TROLL" since I have a low post count. Well then, EVERYONE has been a TROLL. But, please, feel free to ignore or block me.

Anyway, to compare differences, I use the tool(s) at Visually Compare Pistol And Revolver Dimensions, Weight, Capacity, And More | Handgun Hero
Actually Handgun Hero is WRONG! The Macro has a 3.7" barrel, not a 3.1" The 365 XL has a 3.7" barrel and the two slides are the same. You can't put a 3.1" barrel in those slides.

If I may add one more point of clarification to this already excellent thread, while the slides are interchangeable between the 9 mm and the 380 versions, it definitely must be done as an assembly, since the barrels are completely different. The 380 barrel is almost paper thin as compared to the 9 mm barrel, so while the ID may be roughly the same, the OD is completely different. The recoil rod/ spring assembly is also completely different between the two.

Same here... keep us posted as I am in learning/sponge mode. Bought the wife the 380 Rose and myself the Macro comp and the Spectre Comp. I have one DPM recoil kit and one True Precision barrel arriving tomorrow. Thinking of upgrading one of the guns so I can notice the changes and then decide if if there is a better route for the 2nd build. Do you have any plans already in play?

Question: adding optical sights: What's available? My wife and I both EDC with a "standard" P-365 and she may want a red dot.
Below is a list of optical sights to the Shield Reflex Mini Sight/Compact (RMSc) footprint/mounting standard that will fit directly to any P365 optic ready slide.

This list isn't exhaustive; if you are shopping for a sight, check if it mentions "RMSc" footprint, and you should be good to go.

Sig Romeo Zero
Sig Romeo Zero Elite
Sig Romeo X Compact
Holosun 407k/507k
Holosun EPS Carry*
Jpoint
Shield RMSc
Swampfox Sentinel
Springfield Armory Hex Wasp
Vortex Defender CCW
Vector Optics Frenzy

*The Holosun EPS will fit also, but it's more of a double stack optic width, and will overhang a bit on a P365 slide.

I wish I would’ve found this detailed description before I purchased my standard P365! I wanted something smaller than my Canik TP9 SC elite to EDC. Didn’t realize I could’ve purchased the X or the XL and gotten increased mag capacity right out the box. I ended up buying the 12 round mags plus the X frame from Sig also.

Once I totaled up what I spent, that’s when I realized I could’ve gotten the X and just purchased a smaller grip frame 😂

Also due to me browsing the Sig website in the middle of the night, I purchased an XMacro frame thinking I was getting the X/XL frame smh. Eventually I will purchase a longer slide for the extra frame.
