Any love for the SP2340?

I picked up a used SP2340 with the .40 and 357 Sig barrels in good shape and took it to the range yesterday for the first time.

This was my first DA/SA non-striker pistol (other than my revolvers) and I was very pleased with the experience.

I like the .40 round and have several pistols in that caliber.

Recoil was very manageable and the transition to the DA on the first round was easier than I thought it would be.

The trigger, it’s a Sig, so what else can you say there? It’s great.

Accuracy was very good, 2 1/2” - 3” group head shots on a standard silhouette target at 25 yards. It definitely made me look better than I am.

How many SP2340 users are out there and what’s your opinion on them?

From what little I’ve been able to piece together it was one of, if not the first, Sig poly framed guns and intended for the LE market.

It apparently fell into disfavor when it’s 10 shot capacity was bested by other manufacturers who introduced models with higher capacity.

Don’t care, I like it!

This gun was introduced during the clinton/democrat “assault weapon” ban era and all guns (not just Sig) were capped at 10rds. It never gained great popularity because the polymer striker fired guns were taking off at the time and Sig purists weren’t that interested in a polymer framed gun. Add in the lack of aftermarket support and initially the price was in the $450 range, that was a lot of money in 1999.

With that said the 2022 is a fantastic gun IMO. The stock trigger is often better than the regular P series guns and at today’s prices it’s a bargain! I’m sure you’ll enjoy it, congrats!

Yes, original SigArms box, manual, .357 Sig barrel and additional smooth grip. I have large hands and this is a very comfortable fit for me.

When I have a spare moment or two I’ll see if I can track down when it was made.

I’ve got an SP2340, SP2009, and a few SP2022s. Essentially all the same except for the lack of accessory rail on the 2340 and 2009. Very nice shooting & feeling guns. I honestly like the trigger feel better than the P22x guns. Like you I’ve got .40 and .357 barrels for my 2340 and one of the 2022s. I really think these are SIGs most underrated gems.

I own a P2340 in 357sig, and it's a superb shooter. It's accurate as hell. The P2340 started out as a 40/357 platform, evolved to the P2009 in a 9 platform, and then finally to the P2022 in a 9/40/357 platform. These guns preceded the P229 which replaced it. I am after an FDE compact P2209 or P2022 in 9 which is like finding hen's teeth.

I have a 2022 in 9mm and a 2340 (in 40) upper for it too.

It is okay, but is my least favorite SIG. I don't like the balance, the trigger or the recoil impulse compared to my 226s, and the decocker doesn't feel right.

So no "love", just acceptance. This is the one SIG I won't cry over if I sell it, or it gets lost or put in an evidence locker.

Is the 2022 lower the same as a 2340? Could what you’re feeling be a result of it being different from a straight 2340 out of the box?

Im kind of a Newbie so please forgive my ignorance on the subject.

I had an SP2009 but sadly let it go decades ago. I'd love to find another I could afford someday. Really dislike rails on handguns and avoid that when possible. I did end up with a rail on my P229 and always wish it would go away.

The SP2340 was one of the most recent Sigs I purchased. I got it because I picked up a SP2022 (9mm) at a great price and I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed shooting it. I like 40S&W so I found a NIB SP2340 to add to the collection. I agree with many who say that the SP series is a hidden gem of the Sig world - a great pistol at a great price. It is similar enough to the other P series that it is familiar to muscle memory, but different enough to make it stand apart.

Yeah I believe the “Sig Pistole” SP2009 is a 2022 sans rail. They were all created to capture European police contracts had a de cocker no safety was a cheaper to manufacture pistol (poly lower)
The 2022 had a 20yr lifespan. 2002 -2022
Hell they are still pricey for a 20+yr old gun.
anywhere from $499-$599 it was the first pistol I bought that came with a Kit. Holster
Extra grip 2 mags case. Etc. was a good shooter.

If you’re in the right place at the right time they’re even cheaper. About ten years ago I traded a case of Wolf 7.62x39 for a BNIB unfired example. I paid $89.00 for the case of ammo about ten years before that.

I’m not sure I would pick up another one. Nothing wrong with it just don’t think I’d have time for it. Also have hell trying to find extra mags now. Don’t remember if they were 15+1 or 16+1. ? But they did come with a pinky thingy. I like that

Just to clarify, the SP2340 and 2009 both have an accessory rail. It's proprietary (of course, just like earlier P series).

There was a weapon mounted light available for direct mount as well as an adapter to convert to picatinny.

Got these pics from swisswaffen.com: Weapon Details SIG Pro SP2009

Check them out for other interesting pics of Sig pro accessories (as few as they are.

Weapon Light (sorry can't imbed a resized pic so I'm imbedding the direct link)

I have my 2340 from when I was an active duty LEO. My agency gifted me the pistol at retirement. So am I to understand I can but a .357 barrel for this gun, and it needs no alterations? What about the mags being compatible for .357??

Part of the first polymer frame pistol family from SIG, the SigArms SigPro SP2022 was also a contract firearm selected by French police agencies. Here's the AI search summary:

The "SP2022" refers to the Sig Sauer SP2022 pistol, which is notable for its adoption by French law enforcement agencies. Here's a breakdown of the contract and its significance:

Contract with French Law Enforcement:
  • Standard Issue: The French National Police and National Gendarmerie both adopted the SIG Sauer SP2022 as their standard-issue sidearm in the early 2000s.
  • Large Order: France made a significant purchase of over 270,000 SP2022 pistols, marking the largest French handgun order since World War II, even exceeding the French military's purchase of the PAMAS (a French variant of the Beretta 92).
  • Intended Duration: The "2022" in the pistol's name reflects the contract's intended service life, initially intended to last until the year 2022.
  • Continued Usage: France has continued to order the SP2022 even as the initial twenty-year service mark has passed. This suggests satisfaction with the pistol's performance and reliability.
  • Replacement: The SP2022 notably replaced the MR 73 revolver, a powerful .357 magnum revolver, as the standard sidearm for French police.
Key Features and Significance:
  • Polymer Frame: The SP2022 features a polymer frame, making it lighter and more affordable compared to Sig Sauer's traditional metal-frame pistols.
  • Reliability: The SP2022 is generally considered a reliable and accurate firearm.
  • Intended to Compete: The SP2022 was developed, in part, to compete with the growing popularity of polymer-framed pistols like the Glock in the law enforcement market.
  • Durability and Dependability: The SP2022 was designed for robustness and dependability, making it suitable for law enforcement use.
  • French Police Specific Features: The SP2022 pistols delivered under recent contracts are marked with "MI" to indicate ownership by the Ministry of the Interior.
In summary, the Sig Sauer SP2022 has been a significant firearm for French police forces, largely due to its reliability, polymer frame, and large-scale adoption.

Recently, a small number of new unissued French surplus SP2022 pistols from "Special Operations" became available on the US market.

The magazines for .40SW should be directly compatible with .357SIG cartridges.

The system should allow you to replace the barrel with a .357SIG barrel. It may require a different recoil spring assembly.

That's cool, I had no idea. Can I just order the .357 barrel from SIG or do I need to go thru a SIG dealer or FFL, if you know? I am in NC as well (Triad area).

The barrel is not a registered part, so you should be able to directly purchase it without going to a FFL. But this part was likely discontinued long ago.

I'm not sure where you can obtain a .357 barrel for it. Osage County Guns is a major SIG dealer including parts, and they may be able to help. I expect it's been discontinued by SIG.

This dealer lists it as discontinued:

A barrel specialist like BarSto may make them.

The SP2022 in 40s&w and the SP2340 are compatible in everything. There are some differences between the SP2022 in 9mm and the SP2340 like barrels are not compatible.
Now the SP2009 and the SP2022 in 9mm are compatible in everything.
I have all the SIgPro models from the SP2340, SP2009 and SP2022 in all calibers and color variants.
