I find myself weighing these same 2 options. Right now, for me, I find the XTEN with the advantage. Price, capacity, weight and price are the 4 points I keep going back to the XTEN for.

But, there is something about a metal framed gun that I like. Took my 229 out yesterday and was reminded how much I like the way it shoots. Therein lies my dilemma. It would be nice to be able to shoot them back to back and see what I preferred.

Well, I have 3 P220/10 and they are awesome. I also have a G40 for back coverage in brown bear country - because of the mag capacity. The right answer is a double stack P220/10 and the new FN 509/10 - with 20 rounds sets the standard. The G40 and P320/10 I've shot don't come close in fit and finish or pleasure to use. But for back I sleep better with more rounds. For every day use or pig hunting I like the P220 OR the FK BRNO 7.5FK PSD

I have been having this same debate. Although more so with the smith and Wesson. I want a 10mm specifically to use for handgun hunting. I generally carry a 1911 in the woods but for actually hunting purposes I would rather have a 10mm. I really love my p226 legion which peaked my interest into a p220 10mm. The cost is a lot though. I have a preference for an external safety, since I started on 1911 I am very comfortably with them. But especially for hunting, I think I would prefer it. The smith and Wesson I could get now, comes optic ready. But I think I’m just going to wait and save up for the p220 legion SAO. My p226 converted me and I know I would still want a p220 even after buying a polymer 10mm lol. Might as well save and buy the one I really want.

Am I in the right place?
I mean, what’s more American than buying both?

All kidding aside, since I live in California there are only a few 10mm available through an FFL (Glock, Kimber, and revolvers), so I’m left paying a premium.

I bought a used Kimber, I converted an RIA 38 Super (sold), bought an Xten pseudo x-caliber kit (complete Xten minus FCU) and I’m heading out to buy a preowned P220 Legion SAO…partly because, well, I’m going to will it to my buddy.

I say neither. The 220 is heavy for the small amount of rounds it holds. I get practical with my 10mm's, because I own a lot of property in bear and moose country and I like the thought of 15+1 on me. The X10 isn't ready for prime time. You're a Sig beta tester at this point.

Get the newly refined Gen 5 Glock 20 or the S&W M&P 10mm long slide.

I'd love to say P220 but this is why I can't/don't. Love 220's but the low capacity is a big negative. I say the same about the only metal 10mm I own, SA TRP 1911. Gen4 G20 has been a solid performer for many years with all types of hot loads and weak practice loads.

I thought about the X-Ten, I have the Legion DA/SA, in my early career I was trained heavily with wheel guns, the Legion just fits me perfectly as I love the first pull as it matches the dbbl action I trained with for so long. Capacity to me wasn't an issue. As the semi's moved in, once again training was heavy, I can dump and load a clip with in seconds, to me the odds of needing that many rounds instantly are so low it seems no exsistant, so eleven, plus twenty on the belt is enough for me. Target accqusion, control, accuracy those are the important issues and the Legion just excels in those areas. And yes, even with all the carrying years with a pistol, I still like that DA, for me it just gives me that added control, what ever decision you make, it has to be for you're comfort zone, either one will do the job..........

I have shot the P320 X-Ten.
It has manageable recoil but I wouldn't want to shoot it exclusively.
I am comfortable with the P320 9mm and would be comfortable using it while hunting. It seems to be a popular "bear gun" and having 15 rounds in the magazine seems a natural choice because 15 rounds is a lot of extra rounds.
I have held, manipulated, etc. but not shot the P220 10mm. I prefer it overall but the 8 round magazine presents an issue. Training aside, will I freak-out if I see a bear charging me? I think the P320's 15 round magazine gives me a greater margin for scared.

Someone suggested, buy both. I think that very good advice -- one for work and one for fun.

I had this same decision a few months back. Had a Glock 20 (10mm) and never quite bonded with it. OK accuracy, but it was picky about what ammo it would shoot well. Sold it. Being a big Sig fan, started looking and asking friends who had the X-10 and the P220. After visiting my favorite gun shop, which had both, as well as some other brands in 10mm, I settled on the P220 Legion SAO. Yes, it was more than I wanted to spend, but it was worth it. Feels great, and is very accurate.

I’ve owned a s&w 1066,Springfield xd 5.25,ria1911,now a p320 which I think is gonna be a keeper it handles well, accurate,,comes standard with night sights. And doesn’t throw the bress 20 yds away

As others have (wisely) stated, go with the P220 Legion if you have the coin for it. However, depending on it's intended use, it may not have the capacity you want and it may be too heavy/bulky. This is especially the case when compared to the P320 X-Ten (or other 10mm handguns). (real quick post, as I'm about to head out on a mobile training team mission. will be back w/ more input tomorrow tonight, but here are some pr0n pics)...

I owned one of the original Colt Delta Elite 10mm pistols. Really like that gun, but never bonded with it like I did with my other Colt 1911's. I was in the process of trying to find a Glock 20 when S&W came out with their M&P 10. Bought the S&W, installed a Holosun 509T on it and absolutely love that gun. Sold my Delta Elite along with all the magazines I had for it. I have never liked the grip angle of Glocks, so really wasn't too enthused looking for a Glock 20, but like several others have noted, they run fine and I liked the capacity. Now I have the M&P 10 and did not have to have the slide milled for a red dot optic. Now, if Smith would just produce their metal frame for the M&P 10...

Look at Kimbe's Super Jaegar. It's a 10mm made hunting.
