Where is the love for the M400/Tread line?

I’ve been looking at the Tread M400 or Coil version for my first AR, in part because I’m lefty and like the ambi controls. The Coil seems to have most of the upgrades I’d do anyway. Unfortunately there seems to be a noticeable lack of threads here on this platform. What gives? Does it go by some other name?

I have a TREAD and it’s a solid entry level AR. I probably could have gotten something cheaper, but I went with Sig for the brand reputation. There’s nothing particularly fancy about it, and I haven’t really put enough rounds through it to have a solid opinion about its reliability. I’m comfortable enough that I would pull it out if I needed it and not worry about whether or not it will go “Bang!”

The lack of discussion may reflect the fact that in general, AR’s aren’t very exciting. Most of the discussions I see on other forums are about problems…so maybe the fact that no one talks about the TREAD much is a good sign. ;)

Sportsman's warehouse just had the coil with Romeo 5 for $749. I almost grabbed one for shear value. Back up to regular price now though.

I think the ambi safety and magazine release adds a lot of value as does the pinned gas block and lower with QD points, but the rail leaves a lot to be desired.

I'm not happy with my Sig M400 Tread. Have had multiple malfunctions in first 350 rounds. Had to install anti-walk pins after my first training class with it, switched to my backup rifle during the training. Two malfunctions today in 50 rounds, FTE then FTF. Remington 223 used today. Am thinking about selling it, can't duplicate any failures when I bring it home and use dummy rounds. Yes I clean it before use and make sure BCG is well oiled. Hate the sticky **** that Sig coats the BCG with in the factory, can't get it off.

I am very happy thus far with my M400 Tread Snakebite SE (with a Romeo 7- 1x30). I've had it about a week. In two trips to the range, put about 240 rounds (5.56, 55 gr PMC X-Tac) through it, with no malfunction issues at all. Shot it at 200 yards today, and my instructor was very pleased. I was too.

Build it and put just what you want in it. I love my PM400, rock solid gun for years now, but parts are coming back and price cuts have started, if nothing happens to cause another rush it could be a sweet seasonal shopping season....... better get it 'fore it's gone.....

I have an M400 Tread and love it. Zero issues to speak of after 1k rounds through it. Mixture of .223 and 5.56, FMJ, soft tips, green tips, hollow points, it eats everything i've thrown at it. If I had to complain about something it would be these 2 things.

1. The stock trigger is less than stellar, but still more than serviceable.
The ambi safety is nice but it was a pain in the *** to get out when trying to install a new trigger.

2. The handguard is aids and needs to be swapped out immediately. Once again the SIG proprietary ******** comes into play with their barrel nut, so either buy their 13" or 15" Enhanced handguard (highly worth it), or I believe there are a few manufacturers out there who make some that will fit with existing barrel nut (STNGR I think, and some others). Or just swap it all out but that's kind of annoying especially since it can be hard to find the proper tool to remove the SIG barrel nut.

Other than those small gripes. It's a great slightly above entry level rifle and a good place to start!
