Gentleman,

Although the reviews are good on their site, I do know that sometimes these cannot be always trusted.

So, I was wondering, if anyone can confirm that this mount is okay for entry level? I want to use it in conjuction with a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6x32 on a Sig 516 5.56.

I also see, that there is a 2-inch and a 3-inch offset. Which one should I purchase and why? Yes, I am a newbie and would appreciate your invaluable input...rather than that of a salesman :)

Vortex Cantilever

Thank you

Vortex makes quality optics but I have no knowledge of their mounts. Going by price alone, that mount ought to be more than ok for an entry level scope. For a little more, I'd go with a mount from Larue, ADM, or Bobro which are proven to be quality mounts, plus they attach without tools and can be removed & reattached without losing zero. I'd go with the 2" offset with the Strike Eagle.

I have the exact same set-up on my 516. Will it withstand three tours in Afghanistan?........are you going there?

The Vortex mount is significantly lighter than the similar Burris.

I think it is a great mount for the $$$$

Which offset you choose would be dependent on the "eye relief" of the scope you are planning on using plus rail assy rail setup on the rifle. As an example if eye relief is 3" then maybe a 2" offset would work if it was 4" then maybe the 3" offset etc... Vortex makes some outstanding products.

Eye relief is the optimal distance away from the optic your eye has to be, here is a good explanation-
