Vertical or horizontal shoulder rig for a 226?

Have a horizontal rig for another carry piece and was looking to get one for my 226. Immediate thought was vertical but a lot of horizontals are out there. What's your vote for this size/ Vertical, horizonta, or maybe you just don't like shoulder rigs at all?

I think due to the length of the barrel, a vertical is the only way to go. I know most are horizontal, but I just don't see how that works/conceals well. I've got a horizontal shoulder holster for my P239. It's got a 3.6" barrel as compared to the 4.4"barrel on the P226. It doesn't seem like my P239 conceals well so I think the P226 with an almost 1" longer barrel (and a longer grip) isn't going to be good.

I just checked the SIG Sauer website. Overall length of P226 is 7.7" vs. the overall length of P239 at 6.6". So just based on my own experience, you're going to have a big bulge sticking out the back of your armpit if you go horizontal.

Don't really like the unsafe muzzle sweep of shoulder carries, but use this Galco MCII248 for my P220 Elite 10mm. This pistol has a 5" barrel - obviously not a great conceal. This holster works very well, just not for light conceal carry.

I only use this under a jacket or heavy cover shirt. The vertical holsters I looked at were all more coin - and I just didn't want to pay up.

Cheers

For years, I wore a dual parallel shoulder holster rig from DeSantis, as well as another company, no longer in business. Many years ago, I wore a Bianchi X15 when carrying 1911's. In those days, vertical was the "norm." To my way of thinking, DeSantis still makes the best shoulder holster rigs. I'll be getting a new double parallel rig for my two P226 TACOPS in 9mm, next month. There is no substitute for quality and excellence.

I carry a p229 in a horizontal rig when driving long distances. What is the intended use? I would say occasionally would likely lean horizontal as it is a bit easier for me to draw...all the time vertical or more slanted as the barrel will be hard to conceal well on that. I have a chest holster from gunfighter inc for backpacking...they seem to have a shoulder one that sits more easily at 30-45 deg which may be a good compromise.

I was reminded in CCL class of the dangers of shoulder holsters I hadn't thought about...especially in a car. I usually have one or more family members in the back seat behind me so horizontal carry in a shoulder holster would not be the way to go because of the muzzle pointing toward them while in the vehicle. I voted neither, but if I were to carry that way I would probably go vertical.

I carry a 226 in a galco horizontal, I think the horizontal is easier to draw from than vertical. I've tried OWB as well as IWB over the years, the older I got the better the shoulder rig felt. I have no worries about unsafe muzzle position with a decocker, for something to get inside the holster , then inside the trigger guard , then pull a DA trigger , I just can't see that happening....my question ...after viewing the pics....do you guys really carry condition 1 like the photos infer....now that would worry me
