I got my P220 Elite 10MM back from a Sig spa treatment, and she is a beauty now! For those that aren't familiar, I picked up this pistol a couple of months ago at a bargain price because it had been rattle-can painted in gloss black (over the factory Kryptek finish!) then scrubbed with steel wool by an employee at the store who was trying to get the black paint off. It had a "battlefield pick-up" look to it after all of that abuse, but I decided to have Sig bead blast it back to it's natural stainless glory. I was warming to the "unique" dip/paint/steel wool finish, but I love the look of stainless steel, so I decided to get rid of the ugly. Here are a few before & after pics.

I can agree with leaving it as is, 'To a Point' but that pistol was treated horribly. Rattle can painted, steel wool? Sheesh. I know an owner of a firearm can treat it anyway they wish, not accounting for 'Taste'. When I buy a firearm and it doesn't matter the brand, price, caliber or gauge. I may improve internals, but I leave the Bones as is and refinish. Unless I'm upgrading/Modifying a Milsurp/To custom. That's just me, but as I said, an owner can do what they want with what they own. :confused1:

This service is only offered for those Sigs with stainless steel Frames, and not aluminum Framed models. If you specified a stainless Frame, then you need to talk to Marc's supervisor.

They will bead blast a stainless Frame, but they may not replace the NITRON on the Frame.

Congratulations on the path you traveled... a vast improvement, and a great lesson for those dealing with a similar issue.

Since I'm still learning about all these models of Sig firearms, I concentrate and follow P2xx, which I think is close to mine. I have no interest in making something it isn't. My P226 LE trade in shoots good. Since it was born in 2011, if I send it back to Sig, for a refresh & refinish. That's all I want. Nothing fancy, but just like new in box (NIB).

I originally contacted Sig to purchase a couple of missing springs (safety lock & rear elevation detent), and then mentioned that I might want them to remove the finish. They offered to supply & install the springs at no charge if I paid $120 for the bead blasting (plus $55 round-trip shipping). I readily agreed, and they actually replaced both front & rear sights since they didn’t have just the missing spring for the rear sight. I thought that was a bargain! It took them almost 3 weeks, but it was worth the wait.

A question - my P220 10mm SAO Elite throws the spent brass into the next county. Does yours do that?
I only ran a few mags through it to mainly check for accuracy (YES!) and function (YES!) because I wanted to shoot my new P226 XFive Reserve that arrived about the same time as the Elite. I noticed the Elite did throw the brass farther than the other pistols I was shooting that day, but not so far that I was shocked by it. I'll have to pay more attention next time. It is a sweet shooting 10mm! The weight sure helps with the 10mm recoil, and the long sight radius helps put the holes where you want them.
