Prepping SIG P227 for winter carry - Thought she'd like to SUPERSTRUT her Stuff!! Mr Willard gave us the heads up, and Mr Burke provided the trick.

Yeah, moved on up from an 18# hammer spring to the provided 20#er. Lyman Digital says that upped her DA pull only couple ozs to 8lbs 14ozs and SA up 1 to 3lbs 10ozs.

Heck, I can't really feel those 2 ozs, but can feel a smoother pull with this stronger spring. Lyman's pull weights are much more consistent too. Think P229's next up.

Thanks Willard!!

Hmmm.
Spring compression doesn't look quite as even as PowerMad's P229.
But I'm glad you like how it feels.
Did you take a pic with the hammer cocked using the SS?

Will do for you Mr Bama!!

Looks Good kansascity45! But the "Proof" is as you say "in the pulling"!!!

"Nice and Smooth"!

Thanks again Mr Willard!! I may have never known about Mr Burke's strut without your post. This simple but very thoughtful part is overpriced - Like everything these days. I'm very happy to add this trick to P227 - My fav carry weapon.

Yeah, for me winter carry 227 is a comfort. Sure, P229 & lightweight 365 are fine during our warm summers. Heck, 365's so small, light & comfy, I forget it's there. There's something 'warm 'n fuzzy' about 227 on-board though.

Am sure this strut upgrade will soon find it's way into other SIGs here. P229 seems like another likely Superstrut'er. But P227 will remain a special squeeze 'round here...

Cheers

Ordered... thanks for the heads up... I did find it on RB’s website... I was thinking that this pistol had that shorter seat in it..... I can’t remember c r a p anymore though... and it wasn’t too long ago I was swapping the spring in this one

Ok... got the seat issue corrected... put the RB strut in and honestly wasn’t looking for any (or much at all) change... my 229 trigger was already smooth and DA at 9lbs... the trigger did stack slightly before I changed the strut... it does feel smoother stacking is gone and it’s about a half pound lighter according to my lyman... improvement that I didn’t see coming... now is it worth $60.... well not sure...... I’m a geek and a gadget freak so yeah I’d probably spend it again when it comes up again but that’s me and I tend to like messing with different stuff

I put one in my 229 Classic Carry. Very smooth D/A. I did notice a slightly lighter trigger pull. Would I buy again? maybe. Can't do all my Sigs, but would consider doing my P225/P6 and my 229 SAS

You are right, unless you have super deep pockets, no use outfitting all of the "Safe Queens";)

If you have a long base new style strut it would be a solid upgrade.
From what I have seen those are pretty crudely stamped out compared to the E2 strut.

The one in the M11-A1 was pretty terrible, very noticeable on the edges of the strut where the spring had displaced material and was digging in.
None of the E2 struts that I have show that amount of contact.

For that gun an E2 strut assy would have probably made a good amount of difference as well.
I probably won't get another unless I get a SAO.

I believe the E2 style with the spring lower, has a mechanical advantage, and had changed out all of my "short struts" for the longer E2s months ago. I also beveled (rounded) the edges of the stamped blanks, as much of the grittiness in the double action pull is from the strut rubbing the springs coils. That's even what Robert Burke stated in his video, that he has even seen where some of the springs coils have been "cut" from these stamped edges.

I haven't been over to the Grayguns site in a while and haven't seen a post on it from Facebook, but Grayguns has their own custom mainspring strut, aluminum seat and spring set. For DA/SA.

No idea how it compares to Robert's Superstrut.

Still no sign of the hammer Grayguns showed....what?....A year ago???

Grayguns is also STILL...after all this time...Is showing photos AND text description of the ORIGINAL Grayguns SRT kit and NOT the current one that does NOT have the
baked-in nickel PTFE coating on the SRT like the last two I got but still haven't installed. I should have sent those back. I think they have had ample opportunity to correct their site and have formally entered into false advertising.

I would like to try Robert's DA/SA strut.

WOW, sounds like Bruce's web support's way behind - and that's not good. I have several of their discontinued classic P performance action kits installed here and really like 'em. Heck, I'd do more, but recently GG's product line has moved away from my collection.

Am happy with Mr Burke's supertstrut in 5 pistols here - 1 P220 SAO 10mm and 4 DA/SAs 227, 229, 220 Legion and 220 MSE. All have slightly lighter/smoother triggers running with 20lb mainsprings. For example, P220 MSE now has a smooth 8lb 13oz DA pull that's 6oz lighter than with her OEM strut running a 17lb spring.

Cheers
