Is anybody using a Surefire SF3P 3 prong flash hider on their AR? If you are, can you please tell me the distance between the end of the device that attaches to the barre and the start of the cuts/openings where the prongs begin? Trying to figure out if it will work with my barrel handguard setup. Thanks.

FYI, for you...

The SF3P and 3-prong Warcomp has a shorter ledge than the CTN version but is longer overall.

This matters if your handguard and barrel length difference are under .5" and you are are attempting to mount a SF Warden or any of their SOCOM adapter devices. You may need to swap to the CTN version since it has a longer shelf if your setup falls in this category.

Example, my 14.5" setup is using a Centurion Arms extended FSP handguard which is 14.25" long. The 3-prong will mount, but the SF Warden doesn't have clearance to seat. I had to swap the Warcomp CTN from my other rifle before P&W, since it has a longer shelf, to mount the Warden. The gap between the handguard and warden is quite flush and it looks excellent but I had to find out the hard way.

That’s great info. I was planning to do my build with an 11.5” barrel and 12” Atlas S-One handguard. My hope was that the start of the tines would be past the front edge of the handguard, but looks like it will be close. You identified the bigger issue which is whether there will be enough space for the Surefire suppressor to mount recessed inside the handguard. I might have to rethink my handguard choices. Looks like the SOCOM muzzle brake also might be an option with the right handguard. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Recessed setups will need a different locking system or direct thread. The SF system requires access to the bottom portion of the device to ratchet on and off. Maybe a Dead Air type or tri-lug type. You may still need to remove your handguard to use the wrench flats if the device becomes seized from use.

As for your handguard options, length isn't as much of an issue as the ID is. You'll need to get the OD specs of your suppressor to ensure that the ID specs of your handguard will clear. This usually means fat handguards.
