Sigs Crazy Response to Romeo1 Battery Life

So a guy on YouTube has a breakdown when Sig CS tells him that the two week battery life on his Romeo1 may be all he is going to get. Someone here posted that he was told by Sig CS that the 320RX was not meant for home defense or concealed carry and the battery may only last a few weeks. Several others here have posted that they have gotten several months of battery life and the battery is still going strong. Now finally my reason for another battery life thread. The July-August issue of Combat Handguns has an article on the 320RX full size. The author wanted to know what the battery life would be so he contacted Sig. I would assume someone calling Sig for info who was writing a magazine article on the 320RX would get someone who really knows about the gun. So on page 68 of the magazine the author states that he was told the battery should last 40000 hours on medium brightness. That's 4.5 years of continuous operation according to the author.

I have a Tracphone Disposable phone for when I travel. Have to add minutes every 90 days and that's it. They sent Me a new Gen 3 phone last year and it has an Ion Battery. The instruction manual says that I Must Charge the Battery weekly since it is programmed to run down. My old phone did not have to be charged weekly. So much for progrtess to Gen 3
At least I can hear better on the new one.

The author of the magazine article was wrong.
At medium brightness you could expect 1,424 hours or 59 days of continuous operation while in motion. Obviously if you aren't not moving for 59 days continously then you should expected the battery to last much longer thanks to the MOTAC feature. Also, SIG does recommend turning it off if you aren't going to be using it which extends the battery longer.
The intensity setting has the most to do with the battery life. For example, on the lowest setting you should hypothetically get about two years of battery life while moving around.

59 days at medium might equate to two years at lowest setting. Probably even more with auto sleep mode. At a very high brightness setting, maybe just weeks.

My Holosun, Trijicon, and Vortex Viper all state 2 years at lowest setting.

A gun that is carried daily is likely to get less. If I could reasonably expect 6 months, I'd be OK with that.

It would be pure insanity to design something the battery couldn't be replaced on. Even really tiny lady's watches have replaceable batteries, so I have little doubt this thing does also... someone else can correct me if I'm wrong.

I was the one who posted Sig CS told me it wasnt a carry gun. I think the only consistent thing is inconsistency. My 226RX is on its original battery, months old but not on all the time, but my 320 didn't last 10 days on or off.. YMMV.

That being said, I just picked up a 320c RX and I am hoping for the best.

Bought my p320RX full size 6 months ago. I am now on my 4th battery. Each of the 3 priors died within weeks. Perhaps the insane cold in Wisconsin was a contributing factor. But I love the RX Romeo. Just wish they had engineered it with a 2032 instead(in 2 of my other red dot sights) which have never needed changing.

Are your batteries made by a major manufacturer like Energizer or Duracel or did you buy them at the Dollar Store? Does make a difference.

I have two that have been left on and are 6 months old now and still working. They do sit in the gun case most of the time. Even if you turn the Romeo1 off, there is still a slight drain on the battery keeping some circuits working, otherwise you could never turn it back on. Most electronics are that way now, whether it is a phone or a TV. Holding down the button to turn it on as required means there is circuitry still active. It is not an on/off toggle switch.

My last one went through 5 batteries in about 6 months. It was range use only and was manually turned off EVERY time. The only reason it didn't use 20 more was because a SIG CS rep told me to unscrew the battery cap between uses, which obviously is always convenient. Thankfully it finally died.

I'm on my third warranty replaced Romeo now, hopefully this one has the bugs worked out. They work well when they work.

I think a key question on battery life is if it's a carry gun or not. And what settings are used, if it is a carry gun. The 320C RX when I bought it new in late '17 had an older gen R1 on it. It was my EDC gun for about a year. I carried it every day, all day. MOTAC on, full brightness. Lasted 8 months on the Renata battery that came with it. I was quite happy with that. But it, like all of my R1's, eventually went bad. All 4 of my current R1's are gen 5's (the latest) and 3 of the 4 (haven't tested the 4th one yet) will only last 3 weeks on my EDC gun with the same settings as above. I'm damn sorry I ever sent in that older gen R1 now. I'd rather live with a little pocked glass than 3 weeks of battery life. The 3 weeks time frames were with all brand new batteries from Renata, Duracell and Energizer.

However, those other 2 R1's that I know to be battery hogs last a long time on my range guns, since they're only one for an hour here or an hour there.

It is beyond ridiculous that there is so much variation on these. It'd be like a smart phone maker saying "Yeah, some of our new whiz bang phones will go 30 minutes on a charge, some will go 3 days with the same usage patterns. We don't know why, but we consider either to be within factory specs.".
