Sig 1911 C3 or S&W SW1911SC-E -- or DW CCO?

Earlier today I was looking at a Sig 1911 with a 5" barrel, pretty sure it was the Target Stainless model. I missed a used Sig 1911 STX by five minutes and needed some consolation, but the extra $300 bucks because the Sig Target was brand new quenched my buyer's fever. The sales guy was sympathetic and said, how about a carry model?

So I came to Sig Talk to see who is at one with the thirty-one flavors of 1911s that Sig has on their web site, and come to find out that the C3 has a lot in common with what the sales guy grabbed: the S&W SW1911SC E-Series.

Somehow I got out of there without buying a new pistol. I blanked out my conscious by buying 600 rounds of ammo.

But I hear it all the time how great the trigger is on a 1911 and I see that the Sig C3 and the SW1911SC-E both are very similar in size and both weigh about 30 oz empty. The C3 has an anodized aluminum frame and the SC-E has a Scandium frame, another alloy which I am unfamiliar with.

So the question would be is how does shooting a 30 oz compact .45 compare with shooting a 42 oz full steel frame .45 model? And has anyone shot both the C3 and the SC-E? Or shot both a C3 and a Sig 1911 Traditional Stainless Compact?

The price of the C3 and the SC-E are comparable.

For a few dollars more, another possibility is the Dan Wesson CCO Bobtail (Commander length slide on an Officer frame). With its forged aluminum frame, it is even lighter, at 26 oz.

Or maybe buy a Colt Commander and call it a day?

Look at the Sig 1911 Ultra.

Sweet shooting. I cannot determine any difference in the recoil compared to a full sized.

Still 7+1 of .45 ACP.

Very accurate. I am shooting just as well up to 25 yards with the Ultra as with the full size 1911. Must be the bull barrel making up for the shorter sight radius.

Look at the Sig 1911 Ultra. . . .
I read in another post you have three, and found your feedback there most helpful. Appreciate the pointer, it looks like a great concealable.

. . . I'm not sure if Smith changed it but they used to use that funky firing pin safety system like Kimber did. . .

. . . a Dan Wesson CCO, that's what I'd get. That's the perfect combination for a carry 1911. Commander slide with officer size frame. Maybe Sig makes an equivalent size. . .

I know Talo has released a Wiley Clapp CCO but that's over $1400 also. . . .

The Ultra is a nice compact size but the slides shorter than the ones you've named.
I am reasonably certain the new Smith I mentioned has a titanium firing pin that eliminates the requirement for a firing pin block/drop safety. It's trigger felt pretty nice to me, but I am new to the 1911 system and have been shooting DAO with long trigger takeup, pulls between 5 and 7 pounds, and one has creep that feels like...let's say it is the antithesis of crisp.

The DW CCO looks pretty nice, but once I looked at that I made the mistake of looking at a Wilson Combat ($3K+). The Sig C3 and the Ultra are as tiny as my HK P2000SK, not much fatter than my Kahr T9.

I was looking at 4.25" barreled 1911s. But my initial idea was full size and all steel (42 oz). The Smith felt like part of my hand, it was quite a revelation...so now I am thinking a carry size 4" -- not sure if I will pick alloy or steel frame. I can definitely see the appeal of a Colt Commander, just wonder if the mechanics (and reliability) in the Sigs, Smiths and DWs have raised the bar equal to their additional expense.

Yes, some nice pistols out there...and unfortunately, I am an impulse buyer.

The C3 is absolutely a great gun and also a commander slide with an officer grip.

I have owned several full size and several carry size, and I prefer the officer.

Sig has a lifetime warranty and is a lot less than a CCO. I would like to own a bobtail someday and might end up with a DW guardian.

I owned a C3 once and it is one of only two guns I regret trading. The other was a Randall 1911 full size SS.

I think about getting another C3 a lot.
Thanks, good feedback.

There are 27 Sig 1911s and 4 "Traditional" Sig 1911s on the Sig web page. No doubt there are other discontinued and to be released designs.

Choices choices

Between the C3 and Smith Id go with C3. I'm not sure if Smith changed it but they used to use that funky firing pin safety system like Kimber did. Like I said, don't know if either one changed.

But if your willing to spend the bucks For a DAn Wesson CCO, that's what I'd get. That's the perfect combination for a carry 1911. Commander slide with officer size frame.
Maybe Sig makes an equivalent size, less expensive than DW.
I know Talo has released a Wiley Clapp CCO but that's over $1400 also.
You got some choosing to do.

I need to look over Sigs 1911's to see what all the offerings are. The Ultra is a nice compact size but the slides shorter than the ones you've named.
