Thanks to "jkingrph" for answering the question about country of origin for the Shield RMSc optic- made in Britain of British components!

I have a lot of difficulty getting pictures into my computer.

One end of the box states

ISO 9001 2015
"This product was designed and
hand built in the UK using
components manufactured in
the UK.
Inspected by Karen"

Thats as it appears except for Shield Sights and the UK flag above that.

Is the RMSw the same size as the RMSc or is it designed for larger firearms?

From Shield's website "The RMS-W has the same footprint as all previous Shield mini sights and will fit any slide that has already been cut for the RMS, RMS-C, SMS, or Jpoint."

Had I know about it I might have ordered instead of the RMSc

It's my thread, and it's absolutely appropriate to talk about the width and overhang of the china-communist Holosun models, because a troll brought up the width and microscopic amount of overhang the Shield Rmsw would have on a 365XL.

To the Ignore List go the ChiCom Trolls. God Bless America! :USA:

Any feedback from recent Shield owners who have the new Quartz coated polymer lens on whether it's fixed that durability issue?

(Image pulled from another thread in this group where a member had to send his optic into Shield to be replaced after only 3 mos of competition use/1000 rounds). I believe they replaced it with the quartz version.

I had the polymer lens replaced with the hard coat lens because of scratching while cleaning the lens. After approximately 800 rounds, the hardcoat lens has more salt and peppering than I care for, but not nearly as bad as the pic above. There were also several case strikes which left larger, deeper pock marks in the lens.

Compared to the original lens, the hard coat is more durable but it is still able to be damaged under normal use.

I inquired about replacing the hardcoat lens with the glass lens, it will cost about 80 pounds. I'm not sure what that is in dollars. All of the dimensions will remain the same.

Hmm, all this has me thinking a custom order from Shield with a glass lens is the way to go. Strongly considering a Trijicon with an adapter plate for the P365XL, but would prefer co-witness with regular front sight and lower bore-over-axis. The tiny overhang was/is not a deal breaker

I'm about where you are except I'm leery of the durability of the RMSc housing also. I mentioned in another thread that I was going down the path of looking at the RMSw, which has a housing that is 40% more rigid than the RMSc. But, it also has the new polymer lens.

In either case, it's hard to swallow paying $500+ for a red dot from any company other than Trijicon. And despite what was mentioned in this thread, I don't think Trijicon has anything coming to market this year that will co-witness and fit the slide. They would have previewed it at Shot Show (the major industry event) to take orders if they had and they didn't. They tells me they are at least 12 months out (if they even have anything on the drawing since they tend to focus their energy on Mil contracts).

At this point, I think I might just grab a Romeo Zero as a stop gap until someone comes out with something better. Shouldn't have any issue unloading it if I decide to swap it out later. And it's cheap enough where, if it sucks, I won't be that pi$$ed. :D

Well, after watching two RMSc orders/watchlist/backorders come and go, I just bit the bullet and ordered the RMSc with glass lens directly from Shield. The 365XL remains the least dot-needed pistol I have, so the rush is not there. Did really enjoy having the SMSc on it (returned defective) so remained on the hunt.

I have three other dot sights, and they all require some manual brightness adjustment as I move from out-in doors. This is not something I wanted on an EDC, and the SMSc always seemed to be just about right in varying light conditions. Low profile for co-witness with current front sight, and auto-light-adjust were my determining factors.

Silly-*** expensive and not a good bang-buck scenario, but if it holds up for a few or more years, won't really matter. Looking at a 2++ month wait time given the Covid and backorders.

And so, my watch begins

And so . . my watch ends. Surprise of all surprises, my custom RMSc with glass lens showed up today; had it mounted to P365XL within 5 minutes. Have a laser snapcap installed, plinking light switches and the like getting re-accustomed to the sight picture.

Ordered on 5/15, so either they had a previous custom order in stock, had a few on the shelf, or hopefully, pulled in a furlowed employee to fulfill the order. Either way, happy to have supported our brothers across the pond.

Range opened up here in Mass for members, so I'm off to sight in and see if I can break a little rust off my fundamentals
