I would have put forth .243, .270, .30-30, and 6.0 Creedmore as possible calibres. NOT that women can’t get accustomed to and handle heavier calibres, but the women in my life (wife, daughter, DIL) are all relatively tall but not heavy. A lighter weapon would be desirable - both for lugging around and to shoot.

However, on the other side many animals can see clearly at night and they can smell humans up-wind for kilometers and hear for a very long distance.

 

?Ever check camo in black-and-white. Doesn’t work so well. So, eg., bow hunting in the winter, you need camo that replicates the bare branches look of the forest. The patterns they will discern. But colour is usually missing. Or mostly so.

So my wife at the age of 75 has decided I am going to take her pig hunting. she shoots pistols a lot but has not fired a rifle much and is recoil sensative. I put a 350 legend barrel on my Thompson encore and a muzzle brake. She loves it. Her first target at 60 yards

 

The Wife had some bad experience with her Father, and to this day does not like long guns. Apparently, he was not very flexible about recoil mediation. 😱 I have to practically make her shoot an AR or Semi Auto shotgun. Refuses to shoot a pump shotgun. 🤷‍♂️

The Daughter is willing to try anything, but really only likes to shoot ARs. She is left handed, and eats a lot of brass. Most comfortable with a long sleeve sweatshirt, that has a tight neck.

I really cannot see the upswing to lighter weight Rifles now days. The weight of the Rifle helps soften the Recoil. My personal preference in caliber for a Woman would be one in 243 without a Synthetic stock. I had a Uncle growing up that used a Remington semi auto in that caliber and
He used it on Deer Antelope Hogs Rabbits Turkeys and so on. His favorite Shotgun was a Remington 3200.

 

The Ruger American Ranch is a great option. Pick your caliber. The 5.56 is optimized with a 1:8 twist rate and takes AR mags. Lightweight to carry and accurate with most commercially available loads. The 7.62 x 39 is hard to get and is always sold out. Many report 1 moa accuracy with most ammo even cheap imports. Wish it took AK mags but the mags provided are good. It’s available in 450 BM and 350 L. Similar accuracy. Good trigger but a Timney is a welcome moderately priced upgrade. Typically threaded for cans. Available in almost every center fire caliber too.

 

I have the Ruger Gunsite Scout rifle in .308WIN which is is a compact and light weight rifle. Recoil is very manageable on the Ruger GS rifle and one can mount a scope either in the traditional (over the action) or Scout (forward on the barrel) positions. This rifle is available in several calibers.

Well depends on what your hunting, but I would go with a 243 win or a 25-06. From varmint to deer/elk. Lite shooting accurate rifles.

 

Find your lady a Remington 788 in .243. Cheap if you can find one and will drive tacks without bruising.
