Back in my tool truck days I'd get Mayhew roll pin punches for the guys that worked on transmissions or diesel injectors. Good stuff esp if you run across a size that bends in other brands.

 

You will need the half punch...forget what they call it.

Great catch, not sure of the size of the punch in your link, HERE is one at Brownells specifically for the P-series. While you are at it, may as well get the SIG ARMORER'S TOOL, too.

 

Bamboo barbecue skewers do the job very well, without any risk whatsoever of marring the pistol's finish.

They work very well with mallets having hard plastic heads.

I tried to search the forum but couldn't find anything specific, so apologies if this has been asked before. I'd like to swap out the trigger on my P226 and don't have any armorer-type tools like punches, etc.

Is there a punch set that someone would recommend that would include those necessary for working on P-series Sigs? I'd like to get a quality set that will last. I've read reviews of some at Midway and Amazon where some of the punches were bent as-received (!) or bent after a couple of uses. Definititely don't want those!

I'm never one to talk folks out of buying quality tools, but to swap the trigger on your P226 doesn't require any punches or other tools beyond a proper driver to remove your right grip panel.

 

Check out the Brownell's online store. You can't buy any better tools (read punch sets) anywhere else and Brownell's offer a lifetime guarantee on breakage.

 

Brownells is tops for gunsmithing tools but you might also check out the Enco web site. They sell all sorts of tools for very reasonable prices. If you are going to be doing a lot of gunsmithing, you might also look for a roll pin punch set. There is nothing worse than a gouge on your precious gun caused by a punch that slips off of the roll pin. Ask me how I know!
