I was reading a few different articles this morning and some of them have recommended using 147gr jhp in the shorter length barrels. I have been running Hornaday Critical Defense 115gr. because that's what I had the most of, with no issues, but curious for those with the original sized 365s or other 3in barrels, is anyone using 147gr, if so, how do you like it? Does it perform well?

I've shot 115 and 124 grain ammo in my new P365XL Spectre Comp which , as you know , has a 3.1 inch barrel to work with the slide compensator. Both worked well. Haven't tried the 147 grain yet but plan on doing so.

Not a P365 but all I carry in my Shield before I gave it to my dad was 147gr HST.
Shot about 75 rounds of it through my new Shield Plus today and it worked just fine. It will be my carry ammo as long as I continue to have no issues with it. Both Shields had 3.1" barrels.
If you haven't already, check out the Shooting the Bull 9mm short barrel testing videos. During the online series he tried many types of 9mm ammo in the tests. It helped me make my decision of what to carry in my gun. Although my choice wasn't the absolute best it is pretty darn good. And I find 50 round boxes for $34 online at different stores.

I saw this website a few years ago and the 9mm ammo tests were done using a S&W Shield which has a 3.1" barrel like the P365. Based on the posted results, I'd be fine with carrying Federal LE Tactical HST 147gr ammo which works without issues in my P365 and P365XL. Fortunately, I have quite a bit of Speer Gold Dot 124gr + P ammo leftover from my prior job that is used as my primary carry ammo currently. If I didn't have so much 124gr + P ammo on-hand I'd be using 147gr extensively as it shoots softer overall in my P365s.

I shot a few hundred rounds of the same from my P365 with no issues, too.
For the OP, the biggest thing you'll notice with 147gr and heavier bullets is that you'll see them grouping 4"-5" higher out around 15-25yds. When I was shooting steel with them, I had to aim a little lower. And speaking of steel, they ring it a bit more aggressively if you like that kind of thing.

147’s will shoot softer. Otherwise it is personal preference. I like 147’s but i am cheap, so iusually end up with 124 or 137. Now i even have some of the Norma 108 gr MHP. This norma is aweful to shoot. Very hot and snappy. The heavier the better, regardless of barrel length.

I’ve used either Federal HST 147 or Speer Gold Dot 124+p in P365’s for SD ammo since 2020. No issues with either.
This year it’s Gold Dots.

Yep. I switched to 124 gr ammo for USPSA after some 115 gr Target ammo I had once didn’t knock over the poppers.

I use Sig 365 ammo in mine.
365, FMJ, 115gr @ 1050 fps for my regular shooting
365, JHP, 115grm 1050 fps for carry
After testing all the carry ammo that the LGS/range carried, I found that I like the Sig ammo the best.
I did not like any, carry and regular, in 124gr, 13xgr, 147gr, 150gr, 165gr.
I did like the Federal IRT (leadless) 70 grain ammo and the Fort Smith solid brass, carry ammo.

Love 124gr and 147gr hst. Usually shoot 124 for practice cuz it's a little cheaper in my area. Don't even buy 115 s anymore.
I’ve probably shot most of the “defensive” loads through my 365,and 365XL, and as far as function goes, MINE have eaten anything and everything.
That said as someone who has hunted with a bunch of different handgun calibers, I consider them ALL rather anemic and shot placement is extremely important, so I run whatever load I find is most accurate in every gun I own. I’ve yet to shoot a gun from a solid rest that didn’t show what it likes and dislikes. When I find the “holy grail” load, I try to find as much as possible of the same lot number. All lots aren’t created equal.

I've read that as many as 80% of people shot with a handgun survive. Shot placement is key.

We run 124 grain in our 365’s. It seems to be what they liked overall. However they ate anything we fed them.
My short 365 is most accurate with 124 grain Golden Sabers, that I bought a case of, during the Obama administration, but my XL is most accurate with Hornady 135 grain
