Hey all

New user to the forums here. My first handgun I ever purchased is a Sig P226 Mk.25 from the small shop I work for. Its a used gun, but the price was right and its practically new.
Anyway, as its my first Sig, naturally I've got some questions.
Not a fan of the double action trigger pull; it feels a bit heavy. So i was hoping someone could give some recommendations for rectifying this and if there are any other suggested upgrades or common things shooters might do to improve how their P226 shoots. Always looking for tips or tricks stuff like that.
Thanks guys

Welcome, depending on which strut assembly you have, consider The Sig Armorer's Super Strut, with his provided Mainspring which is a polished 20# unit, which will also smooth the pull, besides lighten it.

You could also try a lighter Mainspring, factory weight is 21#, you can get a lighter one, some go as light as 17#, others recommend no lighter than 19# for defensive purposes, as it all depends on reliability with the ammunition used.

Excellent choice.

P226 Mk25 and P229 M11A1 are the most accurate handguns I own. I channged out the OEM triggers and SRT kits for GrayGuns Dual Adjustable Curved triggers and SRT kits. The Mk25 is moderately tuned and the M11-A1 is “aggressive” (extremely light trigger and short reset).

Thank you; I had heard of Sig's SRT Kits, but now I'm just learning about GrayGuns and they seem like Great Quality. Now to decide which to try :lol1:

Like Willard said, the Super strut and spring from The Sig Armorer is a must imo. Past that, I would not worry about the DA pull weight too much unless you are going to carry this gun. If it's a gun you won't carry, then I doubt you will ever shoot it in DA. My full sized guns never get fired in DA because there is really no need...at the range the mag goes in, the slide goes forward, and every shot is SA.

If it will be your edc, it's a different story.

As others have commented, there are other enhancements, that can improve your experience with your Sig. Since I only focused in my earlier post on the double action pull.

If you want quicker single action reset, for followup shots then a Short Reset Trigger kit will give you a quicker response. While the OEM Sig setup is much less initial cost, the aftermarket options from Armory Craft, and Gray Guns, while costing more, will give you a cleaner break, and crisper Trigger pull in single action.

Another enhancement are sights that work best for you! A front sight that quickly attracts your attention, and allows quick focus on the front post will help with first round hits, under stress. Find what works best for you, under various conditions, and ambient lighting. For me, an orange ring around the front tritium element, and black rings around the rear sight tritium elements, helps under variable conditions, but everyone is different. Find what works best for you!

Also find grips that are comfortable, and allow you maximum control of the Trigger, in both double and single action modes.

Thank you; all this info has given me a good place to start as well as everyone else’s suggestions. I’ve concluded I also still have a lot of practice ahead haha :bananagun:

Unless you need the small size that the E2 Grips provide, I would suggest rather get G-10s, and if you need "smaller", try the Hogue Contour Classic versions, and for a SRT, go with the Gray Guns Inc Machined SRT that is Nickel Boron plated, as it will give you a crisper single action release,

The Grayguns ELS trigger system would be the first modification to the pistol if it was mine. I have a P226 Tacops (9mm) that has the older EDC hybrid trigger system which is basically the same as the ELS, but the ELS is offered in flat, hybrid, and curved; black or nickel boron. I also have a P226 (.40) that has the ELS trigger (curved). Both pistols have the Sig Armorer Super Struts installed. The Tacops came with the factory short reset trigger and the .40 has the Grayguns short reset trigger.

I've owned and shot my P226 MK25 for about eight years. Very accurate gun with great ergonomics. I wanted to do some improvements to make it just a bit more custom to my liking as I have with my EDC P365XL. The long and heavy SA pull (8.14# DA, 4# SA) was a little more than I wanted. I purchased the following Gray Guns accessories and installed them:
SYS-SIG-ELS-AHT-NON-NIPTFESIG Enhanced Leverage System - P226, P229 & P228 - Hybrid Trigger (Non-DAK Compatible) Nickel
SYS-SIG-226-STRUTSIG P-Series Custom Strut System – P226, P229, P220 - P226, P228, P229 ...
SYS-SIG-22X-SRSGrayguns Short Reset Trigger (SRT) Kit - P226, P229, P220 - Duty-Rated Sear

WOW! The smoothness of the trigger pull is better than I could have hoped and the crisp break is perfect for me. The Short Reset is unbelievable in its feel and ability to provide follow-on shots. The new trigger weight is DA - 7.1 pounds and, SA - 1.8 - 2.0 pounds. Additionally, I added the Sig Pro Cut slide with the optics ready platform. I will be adding a new Green dot to the slide as soon as I figure out which one I want to have for it.

Gray Guns ELS Trigger system, Sig Armorer Super Strut, Gray Guns or Sig SRT. These will make your trigger much much better. I've always hated the DA/SA trigger and it kept me away from the "classic" line of Sigs for years. I bit the bullet on a used P229 and I took the drop in route with the Gray Guns ELS, Gray Guns SRT, and Gray Guns Strut System and it made a world of difference. Now I like my P229 and enjoy shooting it. Alternatively, if your not a DIYer you could get the same or better results by sending your pistol to the Sig Armorer for a full trigger job.

I installed a G10 grip on mine in addition to the SIG SRT... It's a very nice pistol at this point.
