P226 Mk 25 Locking Block query

Hi everybody.

I have a CA compliant P226 Mk25.

I hate, with a fiery passion, the magazine disconnect so I obtained a replacement P226 locking block.

I dropped it in easily and dry cycling it seems perfect but my concerns have been raised.

The replacement is from a company that takes working firearms and turns them into safe training devices. This component is, apparently, left surplus after that process. That is according to them anyway.

I expected it to be like new but it came fairly filthy, clearly it has been shot with in the past. After cleaning the condition seems fine although the finish on it seems oddly dark red/brown in places instead of the uniform grey/black finish.

It looks identical to the removed locking block except for the dimples I expected to see on the "top" of the locking block, the part that the barrel "rides" on. The replacement block has no dimples. The other difference is clearly the lack of the magazine disconnect components but that is to be expected.

Can anybody shed any light on the meaning/purpose of the dimples as the lack of them is concerning me.

Any other apparently obvious issues?

Three pictures of the replacement block are included here, prior to cleaning.

Huge thanks.

Further to my original post, here are two shots of the CA compliant part I removed. Once picture shows the dimples I am talking about that are missing on the replacement.

This also makes me notice that they are different in another way. One side of the replacement block is a lot more "open" than the original.

Advice please please as I am very confused.

Changing Locking Inserts P226

What would be wrong with pushing the pin out of your Locking insert and using it? There are many different P226 locking inserts and all of them should work.
In your pistol is the CA one. The one you bought is the New one. The one you want is the old one. The old one is smooth and has the two dots but no Mag disconnect.

This post shows the New and Old P226 Locking insert. The new one has no dots like the one you bought.

As is usually the case, the simplest solution is the best solution. Remove the mag safety components from your original locking insert and reinstall. Then you will know it fits properly and that the material properties (read strength) are correct for your pistol.

I've not worked with one of these CA compliant locking inserts so my understanding may be incorrect. Are the mag safety components not removable by sliding the pin out of the locking insert (and reassemble for sale)?

You seemed to have some doubts about the conformance of the replacement locking insert that you purchased. The locking insert isn't a part that I would want to have doubts about which is why I was recommending "adapting" your original.

From other conversations it would appear the original insert is investment cast and the replacement is the newer style, multi-caliber, MIM part.

The removal of the magazine disconnect components from the original insert did not look that easy or easily reversed. Purchasing the replacement was prefereable.

It fits together fine, there is zero play in it. I will fire it this weekend to test.

I find it od though that my even newer Sig P227 carry, which is NOT CA compliant still has dot's on the insert suggesting it is an investment cast part.

As discussed in other threads, if done correctly there is no inherent better or worse to IC vs MIM parts.

Did they move to MIM or not? Weird.
