P226 Legion vs Wilson Combat Beretta Brigadier

On the one hand, I own several Sigs, including a P226 40S&W. On the other hand, I already have Beretta 92 magazines from my CX4 Storm carbine. So now that I am looking to add a "collectible" 9mm pistol to add to my safe (and since my 20th wedding anniversary is next month), I have narrowed it down to these two.

I find myself partial to Sigs, but the Beretta intrigues me. I have seen the Beretta in person, and needless to say, it is nice looking. I haven't seen a Legion yet, but since I have a P226 already, I have a pretty good idea of what to expect. The question is, which is the better shooter?

So, does anyone here have any experience with both of these? I plan on actually shooting, but not carrying, whichever pistol I purchase, so range fun will be the primary focus. Accuracy, reliability, and aesthetics are the main criteria. Thoughts?

I own both and it honestly comes down to personal preference. I personally like the Brig TAC better, but I shoot the P226 better. The Beretta has the softer recoil impulse of the two, if that matters to you. Fit and finish is similar between the two, with them both being a step above their standard model counter parts. This is more apparent to me with the Beretta, but that may only be due to the P226 Legion being my first Sig. I have shot a few MK25's and M11's in the past, but they never caught my attention like the Legion did.

Trigger: The Beretta has hands down the nicer DA pull of the two. It is a full 2lbs lighter than the Sig and is silky smooth. The DA pull on the Sig is most certainly smoother than a typical P226 trigger, but IMO is still overly heavy. In SA, I would give the edge to the Sig. Both are crisp and clean, but the short reset of the Sig just makes it extremely fast and confidence inspiring to shoot.

Sights: This one is easy... the Sig wins hands down. The X-Ray sights are fantastic. While I do like the Wilson sight setup, it just doesn't compare to the Legion.

Grips: Both are G10 and textured well. I think it comes down to which fits your hand better on this one.

Ergo's: This is subjective for sure. I will say that the under cut trigger guard on the Legion really makes a big difference. It's ever so slight compared so some guns on the market, but combine that with the excellent grips and the gun simply stays put under faster strings of fire.

Controls: I'm at a toss up on this one. Each have their advantages and disadvantages. I still don't care for the decocker being on the slide of the Beretta, but being that the Brig TAC is a G model, I can live with it. I still don't care for the slide stop location on the Sig. I've learned to roll my thumb over so I stay off of it, but it just isn't intuitive when compared to other platforms.

Holster options: This advantage goes to the Sig. The brigadier slide on the Wilson makes finding a holster a bit more challenging.

Both guns have run flawlessly for me so far.

Round count:

Wilson Brig TAC: 1200rds
P226 Legion: 500rds

I love the Wilson Combat 92G... it is on my wishlist for sure as I've always wanted a Beretta. It is definitely a more "collectible" pistol since it is significantly more limited in production than the Legions.... and most would probably say more like a "custom" pistol. If for nothing else, the Beretta 92/M9/M9A1 has always been known for accuracy from what I've read. Also, a few hundred more in cost. You have probably seen this video:

I can speak to this question very well. Why? I just sold my Wilson Combat Beretta Brigadier Tactical (made back 100% of what I spent on it!).

Why?

I actually think the Beretta is a GREAT handgun and I've always loved shooting them. The WC BrigTac is a great handgun. The trigger is very smooth. The DA is terrific. There is no "springy/twangy" feel to it as there is with a SIG. It is a very rugged handgun, a HUGE handgun.

But....

What I did not like about it?

Weight.
Sights (suck in my opinion).
Trigger reset and SA is nowhere close to the LEGION trigger group.
Grips suck, so I swapped in Hogue rubber finger groove grips.

It is a VERY smooth shooting 9 though, no question about it.

And it is rugged to beat the band.

But, I prefer the SIG SAUER P226 LEGION fit, feel and finish, and function.

I hated the "rabbit ear" decocker lever on the Beretta, always have. I found them consistently uncomfortable to use.

I own both and if it came down to choosing just one I'd pick the Beretta. You can't go wrong with either pistol and I bought a P229 Legion first and it's definitely a great pistol. The Beretta with the Wilson Combat upgrades is a spectacular pistol and one you have to handle and shoot to truly appreciate. Being made in smaller numbers I also think the Beretta would be more collectable years from now.

I don't have a full blown Wilson Baretta but I do have their grips, springs, guide rod, and trigger on my 92 and it is by far the most ergonomic and better shooting of the two. A lot may come from muscle memory and being so used to using a Beretta. It has less recoil, fits in the hand better as it is a slimmer design. Follow ups are great and with the Wilson trigger job the pull is really light and crisp. Disassembly can be done with a single hand and reliability is unquestionable. I love my Sig Legion but I think if I had to keep only one my heart goes for the beretta.
