P220R and Crimson Trace LG-320

Hey all,new guy to the forum...glad to be here!

I recently installed a Crimson Trace LG-320 laser grip, was excited about the look, the feel and the potential and headed to the range.

(...sigh)

Apparently, these grips will not work on the P220R model. Seems that there is pressure placed upon the trigger bar and the magazine will not "spit" out of the mag well more than (approx) 3/4" with the slide locked to the rear.

Can anyone tell me if there is a mechanical difference in this region of the weapon between the P220 and the P220R models?

To place any question concerning the proper installation of the trigger bar to rest, the bar is in it's proper fitting (the notch, not the hole).

Any comments would be helpful!

Welcome Danno. The only difference between 220 and 220R is the rail. No mechanical difference.
As for the crimson trace grips binding it up I have no experience there. Hopefully someone else can help you there.
And as for your avatar, it's not nice to have your daughters bump start you when your battery is dead. Tsk tsk tsk;)

yeah, I kinda figured that would be the only difference too but now I'm hearing that there are SOME models of the 220 (including the "R") that are being excluded for CT as being compatible with this grip... not sure why.

Will keep looking into it and report what I discover. Am also awaiting a response from Crimson Trace.

As for my avatar... I have always been a strong supporter and proponent of "Girrrl-Power"!

The only difference I'm familiar with is the 220 compact having shorter grip frame. Maybe some like @bearone2 would know if there are differences between German and American produced grip frames.

Crimson Trace got back to me and can't figure it out, so they are sending me a new grip.
No hassle from them, just (very) good customer service.

If this doesn't fix the issue, I will have to send the pistol to Sig for an evaluation which would most likely point to a defective trigger bar (although I don't see any apparent defects there).

Stay tuned.

I have found CT's customer support to be superb. I first had them on a Micro9 and shot so well with them I bought a set for my 226 Equinox and bought a Kimber Master Carry Pro bobtail 45. I shoot some of my best groups with the laser grips.

Try loosening the grip screws?
If you can not tighten them without them binding the mags use locktite or shorten the screws with a file
