Since I bought the 1911X-Carry Stainless (which will remain with irons), I found a good deal on an optic and installed it on my 1911X-Carry Nitron.
A Vortex Defender CCW 3 MOA. I have this optic on several different pistols and like it.
Fitting it was a bit of an issue. It fit over the bosses well but the front clearance on the optic cut was not quite right. (I have read quite a few threads about the newer Sig slide cut not being overly agreeable to optics other than Sig’s).
Well, this was the case. It was a really tight fit along the front edge.
I relieved the front bottom edge of the Vortex on the outside corners and it popped right in.
Then the mounting screws.
The screws supplied by Sig (more like shoulder bolts) didn’t fit as I would like. The screws supplied by Vortex were too long. So I shortened the Vortex screws. Everything fit perfectly.
After the installation I went to bore sight it. Ran out of elevation. So I installed the 1 degree shim that came with the optic. Perfect. I was able to dial it in right in the middle of the adjustment range.
I have run into this before, but never with a Sig. S&W and FN have been notorious for this, but it looks like it is working well. Only some range time will tell.
On another note. The irons (not suppressor height) witness well through the optic window!
