They got a couple of these in at my LGS. Sold one first day. I got handed the other one today. Very easy to rack the slide. Good feeling grip. I am completely uninterested so I didn't test the trigger. I will say this, it seemed like it would be fairly easy to not completely depress the grip safety.

For all you anti-grip safeties, on a 1911, you can tune the grip safety to work yet only require very minimal depression when drawing so you can guarantee a shot. Like the safety, these are gunsmith tuning items. I have had all those things done on a 1911 carry or competition gun. They do not DEFEAT the purpose of the safety, but they can make it work better in high-stress situations. The grip safety can be set to not need total depression or lighten the effort to compress, which can on occasion be a problem when drawing the weapon. Safeties, likewise, are “tunable” to be real heavy, just a definite “click”, or almost imperceptible. I personally like the light “click”, which tells me it is ON or OFF, depending on the situation.

@ShooterGranny @MoRivera This is just a range pistol for the wife to punch holes in paper. I originally bought her a Walther CCP M2 which I thought was a nice shooting pistol but she didn't like it. I should have listened last year when she said she wanted the EZ Shield. There is a good video on how to get the sleeve on the pistol and it doesn't look difficult. ...
Keep in mind the need to remove that grip sleeve when you put the slide back on after field strip cleaning the gun.

Please let us know if it works and what, if any, modifications you had to do to it. I've looked at grip sleeves and they all look like they will not work to depress that safety enough for the gun to function. Although there are some beavertail models.

One more thing: Since you bought the gun for your wife, keep in mind that the grip sleeves increase the size of the grip, and Hogue doesn't seem to make any without the finger grooves. For me that is a deal breaker. I had one once a long time ago and that particular gun was SO much nicer to shoot when I removed the thing. I have size medium women's hands.

OH - and remember that when you clean the gun, you have to take off the grip sleeve or you can't properly get the slide back on. The owner's manual is specific about NOT pressing the grip safety when reinstalling the slide! THAT could be a deal breaker, because those Hogue sleeves can be a bear to get on, let alone off again.

A lower profile grip safety would mean you have to grip the gun even tighter!

The EZ is a "love it or hate" it gun. Except for me: I don't hate it but I sure don't love it. It is a fun range gun, period. It also works best if you stand in one place and shoot paper (or steel), but you will still get some stovepipes from the last round of a magazine. Some people have said new magazine springs solve that issue.
I used the Hogue 17040 on the pistol (as suggested on one of the S&W Forums) and it works well. It is fairly easy to install and remove. The wife loves the way it feels. When we go to the range I am going to have her try it with and without.

I personally carrya WALTHER PPS M1 when I m not carrying my SIGP365 which is my preferred ARM. SUMMERTIME HEAT often dictates my RUGER LCP+. WHEN our Winter finally arrives, it's always my Custom 1911 GOLD CUP in my tricked out SHOULDER RIG. I drill & shoot often to remain very proficient with all 3.Also continue to work out daily with my JUJITSU PARTNER..Self awareness is extremely important in our present life. Am 70 & ascribe to the old adage, "DON'T EVER MESS WITH A OLD MAN, HE WONT FIGHT U, HE,'LL JUST SHOOT U.!!!" STAY SAFE & Shoot Often.

Just remember Jujitsu and most of the other “martial arts” are sports, not killing techniques. You do not practice killing forms and in a fight you will do what you practice.
