Hi folks,
Decided to replace the Gen 1 handguard with a Lancer CF M-lok handguard. There's not a lot of information out there about gen1 vs Lancer CF so I want to share this weight comparison.
TL;DR:
Gen 1 8" : 7.5oz
Lancer CF: 2.85oz
Came in this box
MPX before the HG replacement, note the WML mount will also be replaced
Compared to the gen 1 stock HG. All the online photos of the 8" CF handguard didn't have the vents and I was worried it wouldn't come with it but glad it did.
Weight of stock gen 1 8" HG (7.5oz)
Weight of the CF HG (2.8oz) less than half the weight!
Old SureFire mount with Picatinny adapter (1.5oz)
New Magpul offset mount for 300 series light (0.6oz)
Surefire M300V with SR07 switch (5.15oz)
Assembled back and 5.55oz lighter! (will need to do some cable management) Note, I opted to not use BUIS.
Overall thoughts: The Lancer CF Handguard is a great functional, aesthetics and weight savings upgrade. It actually fits tighter than the stock HG. Less picatinny adapters mean less weight added when adding accessories. The MPX is a lot easier to move around now, no longer so front heavy. The balance has now shifted to the rear (which I prefer). Time will tell how durable it is. I wasn't sure how durable it was to attach a mlok QD point to it so I skipped that and opted for mounting the Magpul RSA to the last remaining rail slot of the body. If anyone has experience or knowledge if the CF is robust enough to take the stress of a 2 point sling feel free to chime in.
