Looking for IWB advice

My current IWB holster for my Sig P229 is a Galco Kydex Triton holster. I wear it at the 3:00 position. I like everything about it except for the way it rides on me and my belts - too low to take advantage of the full combat grip.

So, I'm looking for suggestions of similarly designed IWB holsters that hold the grip higher up in relation to the belt line. Photos while wearing the holster are greatly appreciated!

I'm not opposed to leather, but the kydex just seemed to be slimmer, and it's molded, so retention is really good. I don't want an extreme cant. In fact, straight vertical would be fine with me. A sweat guard is nice. Lastly, my profession takes me in and out of courthouses and govt. buildings on a weekly, sometimes daily, basis. So, I need to be able to slip the holster off and on in the parking lot with as little fanfare as possible. That's why I like the single clip vs. multiple clips and/or snaps.

Have you looked at the Garrett industries Silent Thunder? I have one on the way for a 1911 but I have heard great things about them for any model. Kydex outer with leather lining. Best of both worlds.

I'm really only familiar with the hybrid IWB holsters like the Crossbreed. As such, I can't picture the Galco you're talking about. The picture below is of my White Hat Holsters Maxtuck. I have my Sig P224 in it. As you may know, the P224 is a chopped P229. When ordering from WHH, I had to ask for a P229 non-rail kydex. My P224 fits perfectly. I can make it ride a bit higher if I feel the need.

My avatar is a full picture of the holster.

I, too, am a big fan of the tuckable hybrid holster design. The leather against your body increases the comfort, the kydex body helps keep holster thickness down and the holster mouth open for reluctant reholstering. The brands I use and recommend are adjustable for cant and height, if you like the higher ride, it can be so. Horsehide backing is my preference, as well. Not only is it more comfortable than cowhide when broken in, but more dense, helping protect the gun from excessive body moisture.

These holsters are also thin enough that I don't mind keeping it on when entering an NPE. I simply withdraw my handgun and lock in my vehicle safe during these occasions.

And with any holster, it is only as good as your belt. A marginal holster can be workable on a good belt but not necessarily the other way around.

Concealment Solutions and Tommy Theis are my preferred providers.

I carry my P229 in a Black Mamba CE from CS. I conceal carried a Ruger P95 in one for a year, and that thing is a brick; it was very comfortable all things considered. The holster was good enough to warrant me buying another for my Sig once I upgraded. Jason always seems to have what I need in stock, because both orders were at my door a week after the purchase. If you're looking for a Crossbreed style and don't want to wait a long time, give CS consideration.

Although for the OP, I wouldn't say this is easy to place and remove from the body when in a less intimate setting, so I would probably look elsewhere.

They say "necessity is the mother of invention". So, I went back into my pile-o'-holsters and pulled out an Uncle Mike's to tinker with. I'd previously altered it by having the clip moved down and back (you can kind of see the old stitch holes in the photo). I further modified it this afternoon at the bottom and got the grip just like I like it!

Have heard great things about the N8 professional model. I'd give it a try if they made it for my concealed carry choice.

Have you looked at White Hat Holsters?

Their kydex scabbards are interchangeable. So if you sell your gun, get a new one, or just have more than one that you like to carry,
you can simply buy a replacement scabbard for the other gun and switch them out whenever you like.

White Hat Holsters... gun gear for the GOOD guys!

UPDATE - After losing 40+ lbs and getting a couple of better belts, the Galco Triton is back at the top if the lineup. I wore it for several hours on Saturday under an un-tucked polo as I went to 5 different stores, my son's soccer game, and then out to eat.

I don't know about that. I have 2 Foxx holsters and an AlienGear that I would put right up against a Crossbreed that I have owned also. The AlienGear is a little stiff at first, but breaks in pretty quick. Plus, you can buy new kydex only for it and not have to break in a new one if you change pistols. Not that any of us ever do that.

Not really any wannabes. Crossbreeds and other holsters are made EXACTLY the same with a few minor differences; leather backing, kydex portion molded to the gun, clip system. They don't have a special molding process, they don't have a unique clip system that stands out, and they don't have anything else others don't have. Crossbreeds are really good. So are the others. Get what you like and what you can afford.

I have a White Hat Max Tuck. Easy for me because I can go pick mine up instead of having it delivered.

Since you wanted a holster that was very easy on and off, I would have to go along with the Remora with sweat shield. I too have to remove my weapon from time to time and do not wish to fiddle with clips and etc. The Remora works great, can be positioned anywhere around the waist, and you choose how high you wear it for combat grip. One of the best for your money, convenient, easy to use and comfortable holsters you can get. Also, one size will fit many model guns :)
