I just checked the downloadable PDF on SIG's web site and it has that statement in it.

You can say the same of any gun. SIG does say in other manuals not to chamber a round until you are ready to use the firearm. What does "use" mean? Fire it at the square range? Or carry it?

 

To carry your pistol without a round in the chamber, and load a rd into the chamber only when ready to fire. Funny, when I worked for Loomis Fargo back in the 90s the Air Force security police at the gates told us that they had to carry M9 on an empty chamber.... we use to say jack a round in there while we're inside the gates incase we face a perp trying to rob us..

This would appear to be a lawyer's response to the recent case where the jury found the plaintiff to have been negligent but also held Sig liable because the pistol did not have a safety. I believe that case is under appeal but this phrase is obviously intended to release Sig of further liability for guns without safties.

They also added a manual safety warning to their DA/SA models months ago. Does that make the P226 MK25 any more unsafe to carry loaded and decocked? I’m no P320 uber-loyalist, but this addition is another nothing burger if people think it proves the P320 is inherently unsafe.

Be advised, however, that holsters, while offering further trigger protection, do not prevent accidental discharges as it may be possible for a foreign object to get into the holster, particularly with light-bearing holsters. Extreme caution should be taken when holstering and unholstering a pistol to ensure nothing gets into the holster.”

 

So curiosity got the best of me. LOL I just checked the manual that comes with FCU/P320's, not the OMs but the Warnings one.
The last FCU I bought was this month, however, the make date of it was June 2024.
The P320 Spectre TacOps I bought was this year in January, make date of it was Oct 2024.

I'm pretty sure that the verbiage was already there, however, they have just done 4 revisions since then. Same warning but worded differently.

Who actually reads those manuals front to back? I know I don't.

Sig really needs to fix this issue (they say that does not exist), I feel my P320X5 having the value of a paperweight soon.

And in case the point in my earlier post was missed, it saying the same thing in the P365's manual is the dead (ahem...) giveaway it's a CYA move.

Trust it enough to carry, or ditch it. There's really no middle ground if you think about it.

 

The manual is also written towards the sporting shooter at the range. In which case their statement of not loading the firearm until ready to shoot is completely appropriate.

Carry is always inherently more dangerous. Always keep a round in the chamber and apply whatever safety and safe carry practices you are able per the type of firearm that you carry.

 

A wonderful firearm -- but indeed "cocked and unlocked" with its pretensioned striker. That trigger gets manipulated and it goes boom. All the smack talk about them going off by themselves is BS -- Have kept my three in a safe unloaded and cocked -- no sears tripped by themselves in months. Funny how all the "uncommanded discharges" happened while being carried on a person. Lawsuit judgments in gun-unfriendly states don't prove anything except hostility against manufacturers. I cut one for a safety (thank you, Sig Mechanics) and that blocks the trigger/trigger bar. Easy on/off for a bit more safety if carrying with one in the pipe. An easy mod for those so inclined.

 

Next the Sig lawyers will have a bullet warning in the manual and to load only with snap caps for CCW and home defense.

 

That change occurred at least a year ago and is in line with the owners manuals of most major manufacturer. Lawyer CYA verbage.

 

I've been seeing a lot of them in the used gun cases at Scheels and places like that. I think the one I was in last week had 8-9 320s in various forms....X5, full size, compact, etc

Sig has the same safety information in manuals for other firearms, as well. It is not specific to the P320.

ETA: It is also stated in similar wording in the P365 manual at least as early as 2021.

 

1. i don't keep count of how many posts I have
2. I am not a sig hater - my safe is full of their hammer fired guns including a P220 and P225 so old that they are still marked "MADE IN W. GERMANY" and oddballs like a P250 in 45
3. I had an original P320 that I sent back for the original "recall" - and i thought it was "fine"
4. I never purchased or planned to use a P320 as a carry gun, but I would have liked to have used my P320X5 for some IDPA like shooting
5. NOW THIS STUFF IS MY OPINION - at one time i believed that all the P320 stuff was total BS - but I have watched enough videos and read enough reports that now I think there is an issue, perhaps it is just a QC issue, but it may be a design issue and I think Sig knows it is an issue and I think Sig should fix it
