How many magazines/rounds do you pre-load for the range?

I'm in the process of building out my capacity for the gun range, but I'd like to know the typical number of rounds/magazines people typically preload before stepping into the lane. I haven't set foot into a gun range yet, but hope to in the next week or two and don't want to be one of "those people" who don't come properly prepared. I also don't want to go seriously overboard.

I have a P365 and, while I wouldn't use a 12rd mag for CCW, I'm thinking about picking up a couple for range shooting (the 15rd mag seems like it would significantly change the weight distribution, so I'm not really interested in it). I already have three 10rd mags, all with Pearce grip extensions.

Thanks.

Been a loooong time since I shoot at a indoor range . . I have a range at home with ar500 steels and arboards targets and stands .

I tend to keep range mags and carry /back mags up separated . My range mags are used only fot that range and get the higher cycle count I try to keep track of . Ammo in my carry mag gets shoot up once every few months and then rotate back to back up after cleaning and reloading .

I keep an Uplula in my bag for quick reloading so I can fill mags pretty quickly at a range but a little bit of a brake is nice to have too . I only use and load 2 range mags and try to keep track or cycles on them all . Depending on the handgun I mostly will carry one back up mag on me most times and keep several proven reliably mags set bad for a rainy day !

Ive been shooting for about 11ish years and Ive always loaded up my mags once I got to the range.

I mainly buy in box bulk packs and its easier to travel with the sealed ammo in the box than half of it loaded in mags, half in the box moving around/spilling in my range bag.

If I have loose ammo I do load that but I dont make it a point to load all the mags Im gonna take because I never know just how much I want to shoot.....some days its only 1-200 some days its 7-800

Why would you use a 12rd or 15rd mag while you practice if you will not use them in a carry situation? I personally practice with what I will be carrying.

I shoot outdoors at a private range so I can only say take whatever you plan to use that trip. If it's indoors you are paying for time, so reload all you want.

I use enough magazines that I can shoot 50, 100, 150, or 200 without reloading magazines. These days I’m leaning more toward the 100, so it depends on the gun. Maybe the 200 if breaking in a new gun. Plus sometimes 20 more, see below.

Plus 2-10 rounders loaded with my P365 carry ammo, one in gun, one extra, which I shoot, then reload with fresh carry ammo to carry after I leave the range. I try to rotate my carry ammo at least once a month.

If I'm not in a hurry, I'll just bring ammo and a Maglula and load as I need to. If I have to keep to a schedule, I preload 100 rounds for each pistol in my range magazines. (I try not to mix my range mags and carry mags.)

I don’t pre-load any mags, unless I’m planning to shoot my carry ammo (in which case its already loaded). I don’t really see the point, it doesn’t take long to load a mag and I also don’t like to rush myself at the range. I’ll use the time to think about the last mag I shot, what I want to do next, or just clear my head.

Why does anyone give a rats rip about what others think of how many loaded mags you have at a range?

There have been times I've gone to the range with so many loaded mags, I could barely drag my ammo can.

There have been times I've gone to a range with only my carry loaded, and loaded as I've shot.

Recently, I went to Founders Ranch to work as an RSO during a meeting/shoot. I had my range bag, a couple handguns, several empty mags and a full ammo can.

After running the shooters through, a few of us instructors/RSO's got some rounds down range. We took our time and loaded while we visited behind the line -- loading mags.

It's your range time. Use it however you like...;)

I like to load up all my mags the night before. I have 15, 17, 21 rounds. Sometimes I don't even shoot until my mags are finished. It all depends on what I want to work on for the day.

Speed = I shoot all my mags and then some

Precision/Accuracy = I shoot my 15rd and 17rd and reload only the 15rd mags, due to carrying an X compact grip for my p320.

Mag Reloads = I'll load up all mags, but at most 3-5 rds per mag and just practice changes

My shorter range days are when I only work on Precision/Accuracy. If it's a bad day, I get a bit too frustrated with myself and leave to think about how to improve. Sometimes I do a mix of goals. No need to overthink, but it's always okay to load up all the mags, especially if you're paying by the hour.

I shoot at my favorite outdoor range on average once per week, sometimes twice per week. Typically, I don't preload my magazines since I'm not "on the clock" and in no rush to leave. Being retired and at my age, I'm there to shoot, but I like to spend a little time chatting with a couple of other "regulars" that I see pretty much each week. So, it's a bit of a social activity for us. We have a new local indoor range that honestly would be considerably more convenient for me to get to, but the idea of being on the clock and without my buddies make it unappealing. I go to shoot, but not "just" to shoot... ;)

The number of mags I load depends on the purpose for going to the range.

For years, my health has kept me from activities that help maintain my grip strength in both hands. Between my occupation and hanging out on Sigtalk too much, it is easy to flare up bad tendonitis in my wrists.

I try to pre-load enough mags, in advance, to accomplish the purpose for going to the range just so my hands won't be as fatigued when shooting. Sometimes I take extra ammo to load in case I use all that I pre-loaded and I feel like shooting more. The bag is so much lighter when I leave.

I was off today and was hoping to go shoot. But I didn't feel like loading mags after work last night. But after loading mags and packing my range bag today, I no longer felt like going. Both hands hurt and my bad back is killing me. If I made myself go anyway, I would have ended up just blowing through ammo rather than focusing on my reasons for going.

Unfortunately, since I had to replace some Armory Craft hammers, and had to readjust trigger overtravel for the new hammers, the two guns that were about to enter my defense rotation as my favorite shooters have to go back through my process of "proving them" worthy of staking my life on them. :(

A long way of saying I load a lot of mags a day or more before a range trip to save my hands for shooting. :)

My range days tend to be "pack a lunch and cooler" trips. We don't have any indoor ranges in our area ... we don't really do "indoor" around here. I always pre-load all the mags I have for each gun I'm taking the night before. Let's just say I load a lot of mags. I don't like to waste my range time loading mags.

When today's range days call for multiple 9mms with 12, 15 and 21 round mags or a day of 1911/.45s with a box of 25 mags it takes a lot of ammo and time. But wrap your head around shooting my Tavor X95 ... twelve 32 round mags ... that's almost eight boxes for a full load out.... I'm not doing that at the range. I'd rather be shooting it.
