Holosun Red Dot Sight Problems?

Is anyone else having issues with their Holosun sights? I purchased a 407K-X2 that I returned because the auto sleep feature never worked.
I then purchased a 507K-GR X2 that I currently have installed on my P365XL. After selecting my preferred reticle style, adjusting the brightness to my liking and zeroing the sight I turned on the locking feature to prevent inadvertent changes due to a button being bumped.
The auto sleep and shake to wake features seem to be working on this unit. However, I have had at least two occasions when the sight was off when I raised the pistol to shoot. This occurred during an active range session. Needless to say I find this pretty disturbing for a sight that is being used on an EDC.
I have not been able to reach anyone at Holosun to discuss the issue with because they are apparently too busy to answer the phone (other than a recording). Is anyone else having any problems similar to this with their Holosun sights? Or, am I just really unlucky.

Two 507c x2’s and one 507k x2, zero issues here. Mine just work.

Before I got too far, I’d swap out the battery with a Duracell. The 507k seems to have reports of lower battery life, since it lacks the solar panel. The Duracell brand appears to be well regarded.

Can you try try emailing Holosun Customer Service as well?

To continue since I posted this...In addition to the above, I've shot my HS407k 618 rounds on my P365X. It's my EDC. No issues with the optic. The HS507c on my USPSA Glock 34 has accumulated 2,303 rounds since being mounted February 2021. Also no issues.

I ran my Glock 19 MOS+507c in a Tim Herron 2-day class in Homestead FL in February. That optic had about 800 trouble-free rounds through it when I sold it (I sold the G19 because I decided the P365X was working better as a carry gun anyway, and to put $ towards a 1911).

In April, I noticed my battery tray screw on the 407k had dun r u n n o f t. I guess I didn't torque it sufficiently at my last Birthday battery change. I contacted Holosun asking for sources for a replacement screw, and they ended up sending me (free) a new battery tray and two screws. All they needed was a photo of the optic, the S/N and the retailer where I bought it (www.tacrig.com). The customer service folks I dealt with via email were very responsive and professional.

I've recently sold the 407k as I am going to buy a Holosun EPS Carry, their new closed emitter MRDS.

No problems here with my 507K-V1. The first thing I did after mounting the sight was to lay the gun down, verify the dot was on, then let it sit undisturbed for a while. When I went back later I visually verified that the dot was off and watched it come back on as I picked the gun up. The sight has held zero just fine for about 500rds now.

So both my R1P & Romeo Zero's batteries died recently, both purchased this year. Not a good feeling to go shoot them and they're dead. Hopefully crappy batteries from Sig and new good quality ones are all they need. I won't trust them until proven.

For me, the 407k/507k is the best option for compact slides. Good bang for the buck. In my experience reliable but just as importantly have the rear sight channel which at least let's you somewhat use the iron sights if needed. (The Romeo Zero does too but jury's out on that one). Also saves the cost of adding suppressor sights, though I can see the plusses of doing so.

I'd definitely be interested in the RMRcc if it had the sight channel...

Although I've never had any issues with my 510Cs, a fellow shooter had one of his Glock slides milled for a 507K. He mounted it, sighted it in, and brought it to an IDPA match, but, it quit part way through the match. He sent it in, and got a replacement. I bought a 407K, to replace my Romeo Zero with, because it's more user friendly, but, I had to exchange it before I even mounted it on the gun. In my years of competition shooting, I've seen every brand of optic fail, and would not rely on any optic on a self defense gun without some other sighting device to back it up

I have a 507 on my 365 and a 509 on a CZ P10-C. No problems so far.

Looks like your thoughts about backup sights are mirrored by the Houston Police Department:

The department has approved the use of Red Dot Sights (RDS) for pistols. In order for an officer to carry the RDS on their primary weapon they must meet the following requirements:
Red Dot System must be one of the following :
The list of approved RDS is interesting - I would have thought that not all of these sights would be treated equally…
Based on problems I have seen reported on this site I would have expected the approved list to be shorter and limited to the top tier of RDS.

In fairness, I don’t know yet if the 507k problem is actually the sight itself or the cheap battery they supplied with the sight. I replaced the supplied battery with an Energizer and the problem has not resurfaced yet. I will give it some more time and will report on the results after an appropriate time has passed.

It is discouraging to see the post above that mentions having seen ALL brands of RDS fail in matches and the opinion that the RDS should not be trusted for EDC.

....without BUIS.

Good quality RDS these days are generally quite reliable, but any EDC should also have BUIS and you should practice with both.

Fortunately, the 507k has a rear sight channel milled into the base of the sight for (somewhat) of BUIS use. I really suspect that in the moment of need, I would revert to point and shoot due to lack of time to use ANY sights that might be on the pistol.

That is why I am not TOO uncomfortable carrying my P365 SAS on occasion.

I am glad I didn’t buy a lottery ticket since I am now 0 for 2 with Holosun RDS. My first one (a 407K X2) was returned because the sleep mode didn’t function. I ordered a 507K-GR X2 to replace it. I had 2 or 3 instances of the sight turning itself off (at least twice during a range session). I initially attributed this to the cheap battery included with the sight and replaced it with an Energizer. I have not had the opportunity to use the sight since that time.

I read on another thread that Holosun has indicated that some of the 507K sights have been found to be defective. I tested the sight as Holosun indicated in a message to another user. Guess what? My 507K-GR X2 did turn off from the locked state when either the + or - buttons were pushed, indicating that my sight is one of the defective ones! Not only that but my sight will no longer turn on. (Probably will if I remove and replace the battery but…)

Guess I will have to get a return authorization and send it home. I really WANT to like these but they sure are making it hard.

P.S. - Decided to return this one to the seller for a replacement that hopefully will work.

I have two HS 407K's I got a year ago, one I just sent back that was draining Duracell batteries weekly and eventually went dead. HS promptly replaced with newer HS407K-X2.
I love my P365-X and the HS407K/507K because of it's compact size.

But honestly, for EDC I trust my CZ Rami that I had milled several years ago for an RMR-01 that just works.

Now that SIG just intro'd a P365 FCU as a separate drop-in item (like P320) I'm thinking they could offer the XL or regular slide milled to RMRcc spec. Ideally milled between taller night sites that would provide BUIS. I know this can be done, as I believe several mill guys like Fabricated Arms have done it.
Having the RMRcc slides cut with BUIS; available directly from SIG, would address the issue of Department acceptability, and also make a perfect EDC IMHO.

I have purchased 4 different 507k X2’s in the last 6 months, and 3 of them had issues. The first one initially would not hold zero; and even though it finally does now for the most part, I use it as a spare, and should eventually send it in to Holosun

Two others I recently bought on Amazon and both of them had issues with the + button. The button would initially function, then literally a couple days later it would not work at all. I turned it off, tried resetting it, changed battery, and nothing. One of the two would work intermittently if I pressed the + button in as hard as I could. In all fairness, the first one I got and the replacement both came from the same supplier on Amazon; so it may have been an issue with that supplier or specific lot he had.

After my replacement failed, I demanded Amazon send me another replacement from a different supplier. That one so far has been excellent in the couple of months I have had it.

Even though I haven’t had the best of luck with them, I would most likely still buy another one when I do purchase my next optic ready gun.

Be wary of ordering weapon light and optics through Amazon. Lots of counterfeit/fake ones.

I have three Halosun sights (2 - 507c and 1 - 507k both in green). I've never had an issue with any of my sights. Even my cheapo $89 UTG I have on my .22 plinker has been perfect and exceeded my expectations.

I did, however, have to send one Halosun back that I ordered off Amazon. The one I received had clearly been used and returned. The box has been opened and it was missing screws. Amazon exchanged it, no problem, but I should have known something was up because it was a really good price even though the ad didn't say anything about it being used or refurbished.

When buying online where you can't see and touch the actual item...play close attention to the return policy. I've received some less than ideal stuff when I found a good price on things. Sometimes you win, and sometimes you lose. I bought a Romeo 1 Pro online for $250 and I thought it was probably a scam...but it was new in the box. Works great.
