Got bit by a Beretta today.

When I went to the range today I took my 92X Compact along. This was my fourth time shooting it. It’s my first Beretta with an optic and I have been “hammering” it to prove its reliability. ( It’s been perfect).
But, on the second mag, about half way through, it bit me in the fleshy lower part of my strong hand. I got pinched between the bottom of the grip and the mag base plate. Ouch! Blood blister. This has never happened to me before with any pistol. I went through a few more magazines without a hitch. Strange. I thought maybe I didn’t have the mag fully seated and maybe it “latched in” and caught me, but it was firing perfectly. I couldn’t replicate it at the range or at home when I seated all of the mags (looking for one that maybe had a gap). Nothing. Slamming mags home. Nothing. Weird. I’ve put many rounds through my other Betettas without issue. My 92 FS M9A1 Compact never treated me like this. Possibly something with the straight Vertec compact grip. IDK.
It woke me up.
All I can think is that maybe, just maybe, with the compact with the pinky extension on the mag it wasn’t solidly latched and my grip was holding it in place enough to fire repeatedly until it latched and bit me. HMMM.

Sorry for the week wait.

First pic. Beretta 92X Compact with a 15 round mag. Slight gap between the base plate and the stock grips. There is a slight upward movement if you push hard. Probably not enough to pinch.

Second pic is the same pistol with a 13 round mag. Very small gap and no upward movement.

Holding the pistol without a mag. (See old blister).

The stock grips are considerably wider than the mag baseplate and with a securely seated mag I can’t see how it could bite. My hand definitely extends beyond the grips and I do wrap my little finger on the pinky grip extension. I have never had this happen on my 92 FS M9A1 Compact
Yes, that one it is the traditional Beretta grip. But the only way I can see getting enough meat under this grip to get pinched would be if I didn’t have the mag fully seated but held up with my pinky finger. I just think it’s my bad. I will intentionally try to recreate this and see if it’s possible. Funny thing is, I went through half the mag before I got bit. I suppose it’s possible that the mag released and my grip kept it engaged just enough.

Flat metal 226 baseplates bite me from time to time. Usually when drilling tactical reloads and not paying attention to my grip <- (the solution - watch your grip).
