I don't know if it's just me but all of a sudden, and I don't know HOW this happened but all of a sudden, every thing gun related that I look at is in FDE. I won't look at a red dot unless it comes in FDE! Even if I'm mounting it on a black firearm. Holsters? FDE. Mag holders? FDE. Belts? FDE. Even Gunslinger Actual wants her next vehicle in... Yes, FDE.

I'm normally fine with the boring black for a firearm. And the Glock 19X initially didn't appeal to me. But I really came to like it quite well. I just changed my XL to a Macro and chose the FDE grip frame for it. And I have to say that I really like it.

I’m of the opposite opinion. I much prefer black/blue and the only non-black guns I own are ones that didn’t give me a choice. Ever since I discovered all black LEO Legions I’ve been buying pretty much every one I come across. I still have some gray/green ones but I definitely prefer the all black versions. I got rid of a SCAR-17 in part because it was a multi-colored FDE mess. It was also over priced and over hyped. Good rifle but nothing special and certainly not worth $3K. I still have several FDE guns I like in spite of them being FDE. My Beretta M9A3 is one example. Arguably the best 9mm I own and that includes my Sigs. I also have a few two tone black/FDE Sigs that are aesthetically pleasing.

I thought that super ugly OD green was the new fad. At least that's how it seemed for a while on some of the forums I belong to.

I have one SIG in FDE and that is because back when I was "needing" to buy my first P238, that original Scorpion was the only model which came with an ambi safety. I really did not like it one bit at first but men did. Oh boy, did they. At least my Vedder IWB holster almost perfectly matches the gun.

Then, forward a decade or so, and the only Keltec P22 I could find locally was OD green and you talk about UGLY! Oh my. Fortunately after I cleaned it and oiled it in and out, the color softened and deepened so it is much less objectionable now. Hubby says it is still ugly though.

SO - you are guys. I am a woman: What to me is beautiful is black frame and brushed stainless steel slide. Now THAT IS a sexy gun!

But who cares anyway. Guns are to shoot, not to wear to a party.

(Unless it is your barbecue gun, that is.)

Ah. Now if only Sig could figure out what “color” they want FDE to be.
The bronze tint of the Foxtrot and the RomeoX
almost perfectly match the slide of the civilian M18. But are far from matching the Surplus slide of the M17X. Which of course matches well with the Romeo M17.
And. Well look how well all the blacks match on the Bravo. 👏

You are so right on the “What color FDE is supposed to be” I carried a Sig module to a milling service and he had 3 Sig FDE slides ahead of me and none of the 3 where the same shade. All 3 were P320 slides. Throw in a FDE module and a weapon mounted light and you now have the “3 shades of FDE” I just haven’t gotten into the FDE.

I am not a fan of what has become “Snake bite” or “Cooper head” mix of black and FDE grips and slides. It’s one color or the other. Getting the accent pieces for the M18 (FDE takedown and slide plate) really completed the look. But those items will not match the FDE of the Surplus models (M17X) So I have to stay with the black takedown, plunger and slide plate.
And let’s not even bring up the FDE mismatch on the AXG combat. 🤨

When the British were in India and Afghanistan they wore white. Soldiers noticed that as they got dusty during a long patrol, they blended in more, and stood out less as targets.
Thus Khaki was born.
During 20+ years in the Mid-East our military learned the same lesson, hence FDE/ Coyote.
US civilian gun trends tend to follow Military/LE fashion and here we are.
I don't have one, but I have no problem with two-toned pistols be they black/silver or black/tan.

My formally all black 320 Compact ... it was my first 320 and I was just learning my way around the gun when I ran across the FDE grip module and decided to build something different. Found the matching INFORCE weapons light, and the extended base pads kinda finished off the project. I'm not a hardcore FDE guy, this is the only handgun I have in FDE, and I like it.
