Days away from picking up my first Sig. I have it narrowed down to either a P229 Equinox compact in .40 or P229 Legion compact in 9mm. any opinions on which way to go? I'd rather stay with 9mm but that Equinox is sexy as hell!!! lol

I own both. I would say that the Legion is a better shooter. It has a much shorter trigger and more comfortable grips. Our Equinox is more of a gun that is fun to show off and look at.

Welcome from Texas.
I just purchased a P229 Equinox back on Nov 20th.
I had been trying to find a reasonably priced one for
over a year. Already had a P938 Equinox (My First Sig)
that I purchased in 2013. Next on My list is a P220 Equinox.
I like the Equinox models better than the Legions and cannot
see spending the extra $$ on a Legion.

Good points . . .

A small caveat, "adjustable trigger" means it has an overtravel adjustment so that when the sear breaks, the trigger doesn't keep moving rearward. This helps accuracy and adds to how nice a trigger "feels" - it does not change trigger pull weight, DA pre-travel, crispness, or smoothness. It is worthwhile having and can be added to most guns (either a replacement trigger like GGI's P-SAIT, which comes on the Legion, or in an aftermarket mod, as is done by myself and many gunsmiths).

Except for the last few months during which due to a back injury, I've been pocket carrying an M&P9c in a Nemesis; I've been carrying my P220 Carry Equinox daily in a horsehide Super Tuck going on 8 years now and it's been exemplary at the range both in accuracy and reliability, and the finish has held up remarkably well.

I love the pistol.

The 40 will easily do 357sig, and 9mm.
The 9mm will do 9mm.

No contest for me. I really like 357sig, but will never buy a gun just for it, as I don't shoot it that much.
A 40 magazine will do all 3 calibers. I have been doing multi caliber many years, and never had a problem range shooting a lot.

If the compact is for carry, I would go the cheaper gun every time. Just going to wear.
The legion will have a better trigger, but the standard has a great trigger as well once worn in.
Some people really appreciate a little better trigger. Doesn't matter much to me.
I have shot Robert Burke's competition 229 several times. It is probably the best a Sig can get.
I still like my Sigs just fine.

That, and I personally wouldn't buy a Legion if the admittedly attractive looks are important to you, as (beating a dead horse here) the finish has not proved as durable as SIG's "Nitron". Some have had no problems, some have, some say it's a tool and just shoot it, while other's bought it, in part, for it's good looks and are frustrated.

Someone posted SIG has improved the finish. Don't expect an official announcement on this, or even an acknowledgement from SIG, as I'm sure they don't want to do a recall for a cosmetic issue. Heck, they won't do a recall on most mechanical issues. They just fix it, sometimes changing design of a part for new production, and keep their mouths shut. Dealing with customer returns when people squawk is cheaper than a recall.

I'll probably "catch 7734" for dissing SIG. And you know I like SIGs.

It's your "first Sig," but I'm guessing not your last, so I'd start with the 9mm 229 Legion, if that's your short list. Easier to manage, learn with and master. The Equinox is beautiful, and you can get it later in a wider choice of models/calibers. I went with the 227 and love it.
It's called "Signess."
