P228 And 9mm P229 Original

What is the difference between the Sig P228 and P229?

The difference between the Sig P228 and P229 9mm.
Only the Slide:
P228 slide is made from carbon steel sheet bent around a mandrel.
P229 slide is machined from stainless steel billet.

Both used the same magazine and frame.
The frames of both are aluminum alloy and originally cast but now an extrusion is sawed and frame is machined.

More recently the .40S&W (dash one) frame is used for the P229-1 9mm. Also -1 barrel

The Glock G1911 is very nice. :D

They do not use the same frame or slide. Like mentioned before the p228 was intended only for 9mm. Therefor the slide is slimmer than the 229 and the frame is also different. That's is why the p228 holds 13 rounds of 9mm and the p229 in 9mm holds 15 rounds. The frame of the p229 was intended for the 40sw and allows for the larger 15 round 9mm mags that are not compatible with the p228.

To add to the confusion does anyone know with certainty if the magazine well in the P229-1/.40/.37 grip frame is actually wider, or is it just the well opening? Also, was the .40/.357 frame actually "reinforced" to handle the hotter rounds like I have read in a couple of places? :D

Even without measuring anything, it has to be a fact that the mag well has to be wider at the bottom half, at a minimum, to accommodate the magazine's wider bottom half, right? :D

Were those couple of places SIG insiders' info?;)
