I'm wanting to switch to a 20" barrel on my 716. Any suggestions?

Sig said they do not have a 20" barrel for the 716. They don't know if any aftermarket barrels would work.
I went ahead and asked them about the gen. 1 and gen. 2 and they said there is no such thing with the 716 only the 516 has gen.1 and gen.2 not the 716. There are different equipment changes over time but no differences in the rifle itself that would warrant a gen.1 or gen.2 title through Sig.

I really think you would have to move the gas block forward and re-engineer the operating rod assembly. You may be able to get by with smaller ports in the barrel and leave it short. What you're up against with a longer barrel is a longer duration of gas pressure on the operating system. You will have to find a way to deal with that to keep the rifle timed right. It sounds like a good idea and you might find a smith with a few r700 varmint contour take off barrels to experiment with.

Ohhhh yeaaa. Gas pressure reingineering. I darn sure couldn't run a suppressor. I could maybe get away with running in suppressor mode with no suppressor with a 20". Thanks for that input and thought.
