Did they buy out the Hudson H9?
I remember seeing that at shot show a frw years back
Yes they did. Wasn't huge news, but it was mentioned.

I actually almost bought one of the originals a few years back when I saw it on a used shelf. Glad I didn't as it was likely a dud. Actually felt quite rattly when I handled it. No wonder it was there.

A revamped (and still ugly) Hudson? Meh....pass.
Yeah I think the older trigger guard was more attractive. But this is also somewhat reminiscent of the Russian Kalashnikov and Steyr pistols....

The more I see about it, I wish they had just worked out the kinks on the older design. At least for me, I was more interested in is as a 'service' sized semi-auto with a full steel frame, possibly for competition. DD seemed to make it more of a carry piece kind of in the size of the P365 Macro. Not that I blame them, but it puts the gun off my radar.

Compared to the Hudson H9?

They both have a 4.28” barrel which qualifies as a service pistol. DD is actual a tad longer overall. I’m a fan of steel frame guns but the weight is close on these with the DD having the aluminum frame (34 oz Hudson vs just shy of 30 oz on the DD. If the DD had a steel frame over the aluminum that would add 10oz to it making it kind of a pig.
But the Hudson version was more girthy overall, again when you see the side-by-side comparisons, the DD one definitely seems more pared down for concealed carry. I really liked the way the Hudson felt (handled a used one which was kind of a rattly mess).
