Sig P220 Elite .45: Should I buy it?

Hello All, especially you P220 owners--and Happy Flag Day 2022.

I've been researching and looking to add a .45 DA/SA P220 to my Sig arsenal. Opinions on the 220 Legion are split, and they don't really satisfy me--and I prefer the looks of the all-black 220s, which I have rented and shot with great accuracy. I really like the way this pistol feels and performs beautifully, just like my 226 MK25 9mm.

Today I walked into my favorite gun shop (which has always served me well) and found a brand new P220 Elite with its standard SRT and two mags for $999. (Other specs are the same as on the current Sig Sauer website).

Should I go ahead with this purchase?

Do those of you who have extensive experience with both the P220 Elite DA/SA and the P220 Legion DA/SA have any comments or advice that would suggest I get a P 220 Legion instead of the P220 Elite?

Thanks in advance for your wisdom>

I own a P220 Combat Elite stock w/threaded bbl, in FDE. It is of ~2012 provenance, w/o SRT. I put in GG SRT.

Had I bought a Legion, I would probably feel like a buffoon (no offense), having gone for the razzle-dazzle shine vs purpose-built for defense combat. The P220 CE is a combat pistol w/marksmanship accuracy, and has never failed to fire.

I own the p220 nightmare, and I love it. I could t pass it up I love 45 acp. Usually I don't go for flashy but it was a really good deal. It's a great shooter and feels good in the hand. Though I did add finger groove grips to it. But I have large hands and these grips work well in my hands. I do have a 1911 compact, a p320, a p365, and a legion. P229. The only other I would consider is the p320 in 45 acp.

That is a good deal for that model, especially in this market. I don't care for the Elites because of the beavertail (as opposed to a standard grip tang). The SRT kit installed as standard is nice. I'd say go for it if you just want to a dd any P220 to the stable. If you like the added feature of the Elites or the Legions, that's all well and good, but I prefer just a base model or the Extreme series (SRT kit, night sights, and G10 grips standard). I have 2 P220's, a 1994 WG, and a 2014 P220 Extreme. Both are excellent general purpose pistols. I have over 20,000 rnds through the WG in 10 yrs.

I own a P-220 Legion DA/SA in .45 ACP and in 10 mm, and a P229 Legion 9mm DA/SA .
The DA/SA action really works for me. The Legion finish and grips - like hand in glove. It is why I buy them.

I would buy an Elite without hesitation if I liked the Nitron finish, esp at the price quoted to you. I will point out the Elite is not exactly identical to the Legion as others have said here.

The Legion 220 DA/SA has the GrayGuns P-SAIT trigger, X-RAY3 Day/Night Sights, and comes with 3 magazines.

The Elite 220 has the SRT Short Reset Trigger, SIGLITE sights, and comes with 2 magazines.

Legion owners receive a free pistol case - sells for $60, not that I would buy it for that…
And the coin - which I don’t understand but plan to use for trick shooting practice when I am out in the nowhere someday!!

I have the 220 legion 10MM, DA/ SA - carried a lot of pistols on and off duty (retired LEO) with out a doubt the legion became my favorite pistol of all times - no issues, I truly like the DA first round, with the training I've had over the years, it provides me with, in my mind, a lot of control getting on target and gives me the sweet spot with the first round, I do like the SA after the first round, as I'm in firing position and obviously going to fire a few more rounds, but once target is done I immediately return to DA - (and yes my career started with wheel guns with the DI / Range Master screaming out his firing commands!!) so that sweet spot to discharge has definitely been tattooed in my brain!!!

We have a match elite 220 in 45 ACP and a 220 SAO in 10mm. Both shoot really well and no significant issues with either one. The 45 had a bit of a rough trigger and it turned out to be caused by a burr/rough spot on the trigger linkage. Once that was stoned off, the problem disappeared. They are both very accurate especially the 45. Here is an old target shot at 25 yards. They are quality pistols for the money.

It's doubtful that is something Sig will do... While they will Bead Blast and NITRON a stainless steel frame, I doubt they would customize one. Just like they wouldn't mill an existing Slide for a red dot sight, they will manufacture a "lot" of production slides to accept their propriety red dot sight offering, to even including one.

I bought the elite 220 sig 2 years ago and love it! It is well made like other sig models and I expect it to last a lifetime. The price seems very reasonable. I dont recall what I paid for it but I’m thinking around $1100 ? One thing I have noticed recently (last few weeks) is that gun prices seem to have dropped significantly. I had been housebound with some ailments/injuries for a couple of years and was out of the market.

Now that I am back I am comparing prices and availability to a couple of years ago. I had been looking for an Sig 229 and they were not available or out of my budget range. Yeaterday I bought two mint used ones for a steal. Anyone else on the Forum Notice the price drop and availability. I live Northern Georgia.
