Edit: Received firearm back from Sig (quick and easy turn around)
The below issues I had listed turned out to be false alarms, mostly. Sucking up my pride here for the sake of this helping others.
The barrel, in fact, was NOT chipping, and simply had fouling on it. I was certain it had been but I should have put a bit more elbow grease into the cleaning of it. Bit embarrassing, but hey, I hadn't ran into that serious of fouling after just 100 rds. I guess I'll need to use a more aggressive brush in the future. So to those who stated it was likely fouling: you were right. Thank you.
Regarding feeding issues with a loaded mag, however, Sig tech stated they polished the feed ramp and performed a test with 17rds. Successful conclusion and the "firearm passed function test and fired without malfunction".
And lastly, the tech stated "it is common on all pistols for the slide to sometimes release when a new loaded magazine is put into the pistol with the slide locked to the rear." I still find this to be a bit interesting as the several other striker-fired pistols I've owned and operated have quite literally never done this. However, it's not a big deal to me and I will admit it was pretty neat when that had occurred. I can easily live with this.
All in all, I'm happy with the service received from Sig. Less than one week for complete turn around!
Excited about this model, I decided to pick one up from a LGS last week. 100 rds through it and I'm experiencing a variety of issues. The pistol is currently in shipment to Sig for some gunsmith triage, but I thought I should post up my experiences for others who may (hopefully not) run into the same. Here goes...
1. The (2) 17rd mags are STIFF. On both, I've had to really crank down on the 16th round with their speed-loader to get the 17th round in. New mags, ok, maybe need a bit of break-in. However, trying to seat this full mag into the pistol with a closed slide was a bear. I quite literally had to slam the mag home for it to seat. This is where the big issue occurs. When I attempted to pull back the slide, it was hanging up... on the bullet. The slide would not pull back, so I dropped the mag for inspection. The bit of pressure I applied actually pushed the top (17th) bullet deeper into its casing (shortening the COL). Oof. Downloading 1 to 16 rounds worked fine.
2. When the pistol warmed up after the first spent mag, any mags that were loaded there after (with the slide locked back) would automatically release the slide the moment I drove the new mag home. Uhh, not good. The minor vibration caused by seating a mag should not be releasing the slide.
3. The barrel coating on the muzzle chipped away at around the 100 round mark, exposing the bare, rough steel underneath.
Ammo used: Winchester white box 115gr 9mm & Sig Elite Defense 115gr JHP
No internal modifications have been made to the pistol.
I'll keep this updated as communication with Sig continues. Disappointing. The pistol feels fantastic and shoots flat. I want to love it enough to rotate into my EDC.
