Mec-Gar advertises an 18 round flush-fit mag for the p226. Can anyone explain how they can fit three more rounds into the same mag well space as the 15 round Sig magazine?

Opinions of the Mec-Gars?

I only use the 18 round mags for my P226 TACOPS and Legion, when shooting them in IDPA and USPSA competition. I've shot a little over 1,000 rounds through both guns in competition and have not had any failure to speak of. And that's all reloads I loaded on my Dillon XL650. Mec-Gar made the P226 OEM magazines for years and make many other major manufacturers' OEM magazines. They are reliable and dependable.

Mec-Gar still makes OEM magazines for Sig Sauer. My new 9mm Legion P226 manufacturing date is 01-JUL-2016. The three mags that came with the weapon are stamped Sig Sauer 9mm one the left side and Mec-Gar Made in Italy in very small type on the other side.

I ordered three after market 18 round magazines because other members and sig lovers swear by its reliability, What they don't tell you are the after market part no MGP22618AFC is actually a better manufactured mag than the OEM Sig.

The after market mag comes with a nicer thicker synthetic butt plate and a very nice AFC Anti-friction coating which puts the quality OEM mag to shame.

Since this is my first Sig pistol I can attest its a flush fit but not the magazines' or the pistol's, for that matter, reliability. Though I do trust both until proven otherwise.

I have a couple of the MecGar 18 rounders, and swap them between my 226 Legion and MK-25 regularly with absolutely no issues. It's a snazzy bit of engineering to get those 3 extra rounds in there without much noticeable extension of the baseplate, but the shorter follower explains it, huh?
Highly recommended! Greg Cote LLC usually has decent pricing, inventory in stock and very fast shipping, for what it's worth.
Safe Shooting!

Anyone else also use the mec-gar 20 round mags? There the 18 round mecgar mags with a +2 extension. I seem to have no problem putting +3 rounds in them. Ive restricted it to range testing for months but Im confident after thousands of rounds with no problems that +3 works even when loading mags in battery position.

These are excellent magazines. I've run them hard with no issues. You should be pleased with them. IDK why anyone would run a 15 round mag in a 226 except to save on weight. I'm not a big fan of the 20 rounders, but I like the MG18s.
