Hi,

I am looking to add another rifle to my collection and am stuck between the Sig MCX Spear LT 7.62 x 39 or the Sugar Weasel by Q.

I will end up putting a LPVO on this setup and using it as a SPR setup.

I haven’t heard a lot about the MCX LT so I was wondering everyone’s thoughts and if it was a good option or if I should just stick with the 5.56 platform.

I seond buying the 7.62x39 Spear. Light years ahead of an AK. Be sure and buy a lot of extra magazines. An LPVO might be overkill on a 7.62x39mm. I daresay the ammo you will find will never be up to the accuracy potential of the carbine. I'd go with a Romeo 4 Pro or 8T and a magnifier in Unity mounts.
If you want extended range capabilty, get a 6mmMAX upper by re-barreling a 5.56x45mm upper and stick a 1-8 ATACR or a 2.5-20x NX8 on it, depending on your prospective application. If your pockets are deep, get both in ADM QD mounts, zero each and switch between them. Don't forget BUIS - and a RDS on top of the NX8.

I suggest ADM QD mounts because in several different tests against other, more expensive mounts (Spuhr, Scalarworks, etc.) they have been the ONLY QD mount to actually return to zero when detached and remounted. The others come close, but not as close or "dead-on" as the ADM mount.Hard pill for me to swalllow, since I like Scalarworks a lot. Pretty is as pretty does.

I love the MCX platform. However, proprietary parts are expensive and may be difficult to obtain. The US Warranty is excellent if something breaks that is covered by the warranty.

I've only run the 5.56 NATO and 300 BLK versions. The bolt and magazines will be different for the 7.62x39R version.

The two versions that I have all run reliably. Accuracy is good for a battle rifle, but is not for people that want a long rage tack driver.

I have the 7.62x39 Spear LT and I recommend it. It shoots perfectly without malfunctions. They did a good job with the magazines. It feeds great. I get about 2”-3” MOA at 100 yds and I’m not a marksman by any means. The Spear LT is a smooth shooter and the ambi bolt release is the cats meow. I do plan to buy a 5.56 barrel for it tho just to fit my ammo supply. I just need a 16” 5.56 barrel and the bolt and I’m good to go with a complete 5.56 Spear LT. The barrel changes are simple. 5 minute job that’s it. Go for the Spear!

Thank you all for your input, I am mainly just looking for another rifle in 7.62 that would be better then an AK.

My last question is about internal upgrades. I know for the previous MCX modules they only used proprietary parts.

For the new MCX Spear LT would I be able to drop in a Geissele SDE trigger and charging handle or a Radian raptor charging handle?

Those two upgrades are the only things I’m really looking to do.

also what are the options for mags? Does Magpul make any pmags for them?

Pros: 1) the 7.62x39mm is a great round and has been thoroughly vetted; 2) the Spear LT takes all the current uppers in 5.56mm, 308, and .270 Fury. (Switching & swapping).
Cons: 1) you now have a semi-automatic rifle and are a target for future AFT action; 2) you now have a Weapon of War, you mean, nasty, individual, you :)ROFLMAO:); 3) you now have an Assault Weapon!
On the plus side, with the issuance of the new Spear LT to the military, the AR-style rifle is no longer a Weapon of War Or and Assault Weapon -- it's just another semi-automatic .22 rifle (if you have a 5.56 or .223).

Idk about all that, but this right here is a real weapon of war! Do you have any idea how many Nazis this gun has taken down! 🇺🇸

I actually went to a store this past weekend and got my hands on both of them. They were both very very nice and I liked the 308 win but I felt the LT 7.62 x 39 just felt better in my hands.

It was lighter and smoother and just more was I looking for. I’m very excited to pick one of them up.

Just trying to determine which optic now. Sig Tango6T, Vudu 1-10 or Nightforce Atacr 1-8.
