If you have a German made Classic Sig and want to know the date it was produced, this may be of help. This has been posted on other forums but I have not seen it discussed here.

Haven't gotten a good picture as of yet. This appears to be a German Sig Arms P226, Frame made in Germany. Chambered in .40 S&W. No history on the weapon was available. The original mags exceeded the Washington limit of 10rds and the LGS destroyed them. :( I did call Sig CS to review the SN and they have nothing on file. They explained that they didn't get those numbers from Germany. Because this says it was made in "Germany" and not "West Germany" and reunification was in 1991 and it took a bit to run through the WG it was produced after that date. The SN seems to suggest it was probably made in the late 1990's or more likely early 2000's. There is no mark under the chin, I didn't get a good pic of the other side of the barrel on it, however the barrel is stamped SIGSAUER. I suspect a replacement barrel. I did talk with the LGS and explained that without the box, history, and mags $800 was too high. I managed to get that down.
I will follow up with some better pics once I get it out of jail and cleaned up. Maybe others would have a better date. Willard?

You do not have a "German" Sig, in the sense, that a "German" Sig Sauer would have been manufactured and assembled in Germany.

Your Sig was assembled in the US, of parts made in both Germany (Frame), and the US.

I believe the railed Frames did not come out until around 2004.

The "mark" on your Barrels lug, is from where the Barrel itself was "proof fired". But the whole pistol was not proofed, as it was not made and assembled in Germany.

Since the original grips appear to have been replaced, going from the mold dates to establish an exact time frame is impossible. From the other "site" it could be late 2004.

I have spoken with Sig CS again. Not very clear about the date of assembly. I was mostly curious because the information stamped on the frame. I did clean it, field strip cleaning, and took it to the range. Cycles without issues. I put 50 rounds of AE 40S&W 180 gr. Nice weight. Seems a bit smaller than my MK25 and the rail is a bit different as well. I did arrange to send it to Sig for the $150 treatment. Should be back in a couple of weeks.

Received my P226 hybrid .40 S&W back from Sig. Took advantage of the pistol service package. Cleaned in detail, replaced all springs, lube and oil, they did find that an SRT kit had been installed, (which was good news) and found no other issues. I did replace the grips with black Sig polymer, installed the extended takedown lever, and a solid SS guide rod. Picked up some 10rd Mec-Gar magazines.
