15 years or so ago, Ginger and I bought a pair of Baby Eagle's in 9mm. This was her best shooter, and I enjoyed shooting mine. But then a move came up and I had to pair down the collection a bit,, so those two got sold. But a surprise from Palmetto State Armory - they listed new Jericho 941's at $369. These were a small batch of blems from IWI.
The only change from our old pistols is the rail. I added new grips and put in a CZ reduced power hammer spring. The listing on PSA lasted 3 hours after I bought mine - no surprise.
The Jericho 941 series is a CZ 75 clone with a bit of Tangfolio for fun. The have been in production in one flavor or another since 1989. IMI originally used Tangfolio to assemble their Baby Eagles. I believe that continues with IWI today. Up until 2021 Jericho's had chrome lined polygonal barrels, but due to covid they couldn't get barrels in quantity to continue manufacture. So they now come with very nicely done button rifling with deep lands and grooves. This is a supposed blem gun - bench tech notes say bad cocking serrations. hmmmm. They look perfect to me, besides with this short slide, I use the decocker handles to rack the pistol.
The Jericho comes with two 17 round mags, it also takes CZ 75 mags which I have plenty of. So what makes a Jericho different from a CZ 75? Obvious frame differences ( with the Jericho mimicking the style of the Desert Eagle pistols ). Also this is more a clone of a shadow 2 with the full size steel frame. And it is a chunky monkey. 41.6 oz's with an unloaded mag and 49 oz's fully stuffed. Another difference is the sear and hammer engagement. The Jericho's DA is set from the factory to stop at half cock and then you pull through if you want, or stop at half cock and carry hot on half cock. That is one way it works. You can also decock and carry hammer down. Unlike the SA version you can not carry cocked and locked. Some cz75's have a half cock ledge..but it is much harder to stage.
Another difference is build quality. The frame and slide are perfect with no machining marks - unlike the CZ75. The slide on a Jericho runs easy and smooth, very easy to rack. CZ75's can run this smooth but only after polishing rails, slides and the entire action. The Jericho runs smooth out of the box. The trigger on the 941 overall is a smoother, lighter trigger out of the box, with a shorter reset. Finally the frame and slide finish is much better and longer lasting on the Jericho's. Unlike the paint finish CZ uses and splats all over the internal rails and slide.
So of course I took it all apart and did some finish polishing ( IWI had already done some ) on components, slide and frame rails etc...Put in lighter hammer spring. The DA trigger is now a long incredibly smooth pull breaking at 6lb 8oz's ( still retained the half cock set ). The SA trigger breaks at 2lb 9oz's with a 1/16" reset that is tactile and audible. Out of box DA was 10lbs 9oz's and SA was 4lbs 7oz's.
t shoots way better than I could this day - damn old age, eyesight, ears, and starting to get the shakes. Arghhh. Or maybe I am just a wimp and this heavy ole bubba might be a bit much...who knows. I ain't selling this one, to good of a value and fun to shoot. but it won't likely see anything but range or comp shooting. The 4" circle lower right is the result of a full mag dump at 10 yards - shot timer put it at just under 5 seconds. Thanks for dropping by.
