Both German and US are fine models. I just know that my new US 220 Elite SS Carry and my 220 Match Stainless Elite (MSE) had to go back to Sig because of chatter marks and scratches. Had them replaced, as Sig should have done, but not good examples of Sigs quality and reputation. And while German Sigs will have the occasional issues from time to time, I feel that that their craftsmanship and quality still has the edge. Just my opinion, of course of having first hand experience and owning 15 of um ;).

you haven't bought anything recently.

Not as of this minute bear, but have my eye out for a couple. Classic's have been eaten up and so has the SuperMatch. I'd probably go for a L1 but kinda wanted the couple of enhancements of the E. But 15 so far with a lot bought in a short period this year.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think there is a nickels worth of difference between a German Sig or an Americian Sig. I have one complete German Sig and a few with German slides or frames, and some are All-American. I think all of them are outstanding! I think there is a certain (and I do not mean this as a negative statement) snob appeal to the all German Sigs. Plus with the new UN Firearms laws, i don't think there will be very many more German Sigs. So If that is what you like, get them now!

Also scared that I migh catch the W.German/ German Signess.
The WGERMANY strain is the very worst, the strongest of the SiGness bugs out there....and yes, once bit you are in grave danger. :D

the 228 might be the best production sig ever made.
Yup, probably the best mid size /compact combat handgun ever made in terms of design, build quality, balance and shootability.

The Germans know how to make guns and cars. Volkswagen excluded, IMHO.
You do know they make Bugatti right? So obviously they know how to make some cars... LOL...

The build quality of both my Sig Sauer P227 Carry&Sig Sauer WK-25 Navy, both Mfg.in Exeter N.H USA. Are as good or better then the build quality of my two German Mfg.HK USP Compacts. And the build quality of HK is the world standard for high quality.

I would think that the US made solid billet slides would be better then the pressed steel two piece slide used on the German Sig's, "BUT" for me, there is something about the German Sigs that just appeals to me. I don't know if it's the balance like others claim or what!. Iv'e picked up three recently all W German in minty condition in their original boxes with test targets and papers. P220, P225,P228. The P220 is a K-Kote gun with factory sig-lite sights. They are out there you just have to hunt for them. I think they will be an even better investment if found in excellent to mint condition in their boxes.

Just my opinion.....

casador...your original Siglites are made by Trijicon and they offer a re lamp service that is about half what a new set of Trijicons would cost...I did this on my 1990 vintage P228 in 2007...

I think the balance/feel claims are largely a matter of what a person has become accustomed to. I started with a German P228 and a P229 or Exeter P228 does not have the same balance and does not feel right to me. I also started with a P226ST and any alloy P226 has a different balance and does not feel right to me.
