Hi everyone,

Sorry for bumping an old post, but why exactly does the TLR-7A and TLR-7 Sub need a special key from Tactical Development? Isn't the Macro grip a standard 1913 slot? If so, why wouldn't the 1913 key that the Streamlights come with work?

Thanks.
The 7A doesn’t need a special key for the X-MACRO. The 1913-3 key works great.

Thank you. Do you know then why Tactical Development is selling that key?
This is what Tactical Development says:

“This key puts your TLR7/8 7A/8A up against your trigger guard while also removing the wiggle you will experience from the oem keys.”

I get absolutely no wiggle and the gap between the light and the trigger guard isn’t wide enough to justify “fixing” IMO.

From my research that used to be a problem and TacDev's fix is <$10. I wonder if this relates to Streamlight to include several keys as I don't believe they did initially.

I have the TLR-7 Sub mounted on my X Macro frame. With the standard keys provided by Streamlight, there was a little bit of play or flex no matter how tight I turned the screw. With the Tactical Development key, the light is pretty much right up against the front of the trigger guard and there is absolutely no play or wobble now and it is tightly mounted on the frame. Probably not needed, but it functions much better now and I'm not worried that it might loosen up during an extended shooting session.

That could be. I bought my TLR-7A this year and I don’t recall how many 1913 keys came with it.

Thanks all. The part that annoys me about Tactical Development is that they don't have a cheaper shipping option than Priority Mail or UPS Ground. It's ridiculous that a $7 piece comes out to $18 after shipping. That's one thing I like about bigtexordnance. They ship small pieces like that for $1.99 (USPS First Class).

Streamlight 1913 key will work fine but it's not exactly ideal. There is still the smallest bit of wobble (when clamp is loose) and the light sits maybe 2-3mm off the trigger guard.

The key that comes with the light will work, but the special key available through Tactical Development backs the light up so it makes tight fitting contact with the trigger guard, with absolutely no gap.

I have the 365X-9-BXR3P and the TLR7a-or Sub doesn't fit...... Waiting on reply from Streamlight but thought I'd ask.... Any ideas much appreciated....

Do you know if the exact position of the light on the rail is important for holster fit? I'm looking at the Tenicor Sagax Lux2 for the Macro with sub and wondering if this holster (or other similar ones designed for this gun and light combo) will work fine with either the streamlight 1913 key or the TacDev.

I'll know late tomorrow 1-23-24....... I'll post an update after I try it in the holster I ordered for mine w/ TLR7 Sub which didn't fit of course.... I now have the TLR7a after I got a phone call from Streamlight ..... The 7a was ordered and it should be here tomorrow......
