Would you carry a Walther PPK in this day and age (especially if it was more affordable)? Why or why not?

In a word HELL NO, ok two words. It's an antiquated pos that eats your hand when practicing (well some people)

With a whopping 6 rounds of .380….nope.

Unless, your name is "Bond, James Bond", I wouldn't. I prefer the CZ 83, the Beretta Cougar, or the P232 instead.

I own a PPKS and it is plenty accurate, but it has too much recoil for what it is...not to mention it's relatively lower capacity. So many better options for carry IMO...

I carried one on occasion for years, but it really doesn't check enough boxes to be a modern carry option.

It's weaknesses out weight any theoretical advantages...

I honestly can't think of a single reason I would consciously choose a PPK when so many better options exist today.

I have wanted one since I read my first James Bond book back in the 1960s. I have never justified buying one in either 32 or 380. I consider 9mm or 38 Special and lesser calibers to be "get off of me" guns for bad breath distance self-defense.

My primary carry guns are all steel five-inch 1911s in either 45 ACP or 10mm.

I had a stainless steel PPK many years ago.
Yes I got it to have Bond's gun but it sure looked nice back in the 70's, fired nicely and fairly accurate for a lil barrel.

I understand they make a PPK in the US now and the DA part of trigger pull is much better than the original.
Fast forward, unless you want Bond's gun, there are many new pistols of that size and cal you may would prefer?
I have a stainless PPK that I carry in a Concealment Concepts Hide-It holster on a regular basis. It's flat and compact, I don't have to worry about AD with the safety engaged, and it carries more rounds than a J-frame revolver. The Hide-It holster works well in those places where it's difficult to carry a larger pistol (the cell phone case makes it practically invisible). I could carry a P365 MS (which I own) in the same style of holster, but I've carried the PPK for so long that I've become used to it. The Hide-It holster is not for fast reaction, but it's comforting to have a pistol with me when otherwise I couldn't, i.e., business meetings.

P.S. - I do have a real Bond gun, a worn blue finish 1935 PPK in 7.65 mm (.32 ACP), but that's more for nostalgia/collector's sake than anything else.

Own? Sure. Carry? No.

A P365 is the same size, close to the same weight, and delivers 10+1 in 9mm Luger vs 6+1 in 9mm Kurz.

A first-generation LCP is half the size and weight, with the same ammo capacity.

There’s no comparison. The PPK is a beauty, but less than optimal for carry given modern alternatives.

Not a fan of the 380 catridge or heavy DA trigger.
Painful to shoot, weights to much for the capacity. Would rather carry a Glock 19. It's not that much bigger and weights roughly the same, although the Glock carries 15 rounds.

If it was a little less expensive, I would happily carry one so long as the improved beavertail doesn't bite my hand (e.g. I can get a Beretta DA/SA pistol for far cheaper).

Why would I carry it?

1. Contrary to popular belief, 6+1 rounds is certainly enough for the vast majority of encounters (which is already unlikely to happen). It would also be only one of a half dozen firearms in my concealed carry collection, so the likelihood of me finding myself under-gunned when I often carry way more powerful choices with much more capacity is negligible.

2. It is a very reliable, accurate, light & concealable ( being only 19 oz., 3.8" in height, 1" in width [at its widest point], 6.1" long and an ALL metal gun. It's also a great looking classic firearm, of course, and makes for an equally great conversation piece.

Painful for some people to shoot

Guys, first I'm not saying this is your only gun (and that should go without saying). And if anyone thinks carrying only 6+1-rounds is a big concern, you're overstating the odds considerably. I know of at least one 30-40 year-old special forces guy who caries a 5-shot revolver. As he points out, the vast majority of the time it's enough to break contact.

Lol, personally, I think there are too many people living at DEFCON 1 because of the news.

I'd much rather have a 6-shot snubbie loaded with good 38+P than 6+1 of .380

With 10rd 9mm guns that are smaller available its a hard pass. Still a cool piece of history but thats it for me.

I would not. No ambi-controls, and far better carry options in 9mm.
