Where to get P938 guide rod?

5720 Views 25 Replies 14 Participants Last post by  Spiritfox
I have recently got a P938 with a dreaded two-piece steel guide rod. There is a known problem where the 2 pieces start separating and it can happen during shooting. I wanted to get an aftermarket 1-piece replacement for the piece of mind, but it seems the only place that was selling these is now defunct (Stainless Steel Guide Rods - Sig Glock Beretta SS Guide Rods) Their website is still up but no one is answering phone/emails. Is there any other legit place to procure the ss rod?

Is this one piece?
Recoil Spring Guide - P938
I have just posted they seem to be out of business.

No, that's the Sig OEM two-part piece. They still manufacture 2-part-piece.

If the one piece aftermarket part is no longer available, you can buy a spare OEM part from SIG and apply LokTite or Teflon Tape to secure the threads. Add checking the fit and function of the guide rod to your daily pre-carry check.

I keep one spare for my two P938s. The OEM guide rod has not failed so far.

Here is a link to one of several threads discussing this problem.

Midwest Gun Works lists the one piece guide rod as SOLD OUT. Perhaps that is code for gone forever... you could call them to see what they know about the mfg.

MGW ships as quickly as Sig... very fast.

Cheers,

Tim

It looks like Midwest is sourcing this rod from the ssrods as well, so it is probably not being restocked. Applying Loctite is a step up for sure but the rod will eventually split up.

Wondering if @ARMORY CRAFT has any plans to produce a P938 rod assembly?

Hmm.. well glad I grabbed the one piece one while I could. I've never installed it though.
I purchased a P938 that was manufactured in Sept 2021 and it came with a one piece rod, so maybe call CS.

This is the first time I hear that Sig has offered a one-piece rod for P938 - are you quite sure yours is a one-piece rod?

To the best of my knowledge, Sig has never supplied a one-piece guide rod. You might want to look more closely, and I think you’ll find a seam. If yours is working fine, that’s wonderful. You might check every now and then to make sure the two pieces are not separating.

If applying Locktite to a factory two piece use a locktite primer. Stainless is a non reactive metal and locktite will not cure properly on it without a primer. This is most likely why some people who used Locktite have had their two piece separate again; primer is needed.

Just field striped the 938 and I guess you are correct. I never noticed the seam that is right up at the large end. Mine has never given me any problems.
I think most people don't have any problems, but a very few have. It's probably just something to watch out for occasionally and I don't worry about it too much on mine. But then I never shoot mine anyways. If I ever do shoot it again, I'll start paying closer attention to the guide rod.
After my OEM separated at the range and part of it ended up on the floor, I decided no more two-piece guide rods for me. I bought the one piece offered by Stainless Steel Guide Rods and have been well pleased with the purchase. I just looked at their site a few minutes ago and it listed the P938 guide rod as available on backorder. Sometimes Stainless Steel Guide Rods are slow to respond to emails or phone calls. I wouldn't assume they are out of business.

No plans at all.

They were not picking up the phone or responding to emails for over a month. Also, their main phone is disconnected. If they are still in business, that would be a miracle! Although it looks like a 3rd party agency is still managing their website so maybe there is some hope.

That is disappointing, for sure. They were the only ones manufacturing a one-piece guide rod for the P938, that I know of. Maybe you will be one of the fortunate ones that won't have any problems with the SIG OEM guide rod. My OEM rod, with red Loctite applied, eventually snapped right where the two pieces meet. It did not come unthreaded, mind you, but actually broke. This happened during a match, and I did not realize it until another shooter found the piece on the floor. The gun did not malfunction and I continued to shoot it for the rest of the match with no hiccups. I probably shoot my P938 (carry pistol matches) more than most, so everything gets a workout.

Good luck!
I had to replace my rod last month when it launched the rod portion down range. I had no idea it was gone until I got home and started to clean the pistol. I found a replacement here. Recoil Guide

They shipped it in a timely manner and it fit just fine. I got the one with the thin back plate as it was a one piece. Worked fine for a few rounds then the slide broke where the spring rests against the forward inside end of the slide and launched the recoil spring downrange. I was VERY ****** off as this was my carry piece. Now it's on the way back to the factory and I am really reluctant to trust it any more. This is more malfunctions with this pistol than I had with well over a dozen other pistols various makes / models and calibers in 50 years of shooting including duty and competition.

As others have previously posted, yes it appears as though SSGuideRods website seems to still be online and showing product availability?

I can only explain "my experience dealing with SSG" when I first placed my order for a Solid Single Guide Rod with them for my P938 a couple of years back.

I remember calling and of course no answer......as far as speaking to an actual person.....just a voice mail telling you to leave a message, didn't leave a message the first time.

Sent emails and can't recall ever receiving a response from them?

So called back and left a message explaining that I was interested in buying a Guide Rod for my Sig P938, etc. and even left them my telephone number that told them they could either call back or even send me a text message, etc. also told them that I had emailed them but no response., etc.

Then a couple of days later while working out at the gym, I receive a text message from SSGR explaining that I was placed on a list for back order and that as soon as they produced them, they would notify me once my order was shipped.

I responded with specific's as to when would they be producing the Guide Rod, etc. and was told that they were going to make another batch later till their next business quarter?

So I said fine....and just had to wait. Sure enough about a month and a half or so I receive a text message indicating that my order was shipped.

Since then, can't really say exactly if their operation is the same or not from back then but afterwards thinking about it all I believe that just maybe they (SSGR) just takes orders from customers until they have enough significant number of orders to justify making another batch?

Again, this is just my experience and opinion about SSGR.

Hopefully they are still making and offering their products because I for one can say that they produced a fantastic reliable one piece Guide Rod for my P938.

Thanks for posting and sharing this!

At least it offers an alternative though too bad they are currently SOLD OUT (as it shows for now).
