What pocket gun would you choose?

8169 Views 103 Replies 92 Participants Last post by  vin-clothor
I live in the hottest state in the Union and we don't have too many months where we can easily conceal with clothing. We do, but not really easy. Because of this, I am in search of the "go-to" pocket gun that fits well into shorts and won't look like you're trying to hide a sack of groceries.

I carry a P365XL Romeo zero which I switched out to a Holosun green dot when I do conceal but this is too large for pocket carry.

There is an additional ask in this thread... "What is your "go-to" ankle gun?

This is a serious post as I am challenged by this (these) choice(s).
Thank you in advance for your thoughts on this topic.

Our only two pocket guns a Sig P938 Extreme and a Ruger LC9S. Have a Kahr K40, but it is heavy. No ankle holsters.

I am from South-Central Texas, not exactly known for mild summers. I have a Sig P238 and a Kimber Micro380 I carry when I am dressing light. Honestly, I prefer the Kimber, but there's no real reason. The Kimber is the CDP version and the P238 is the SAS version, so they both have every bell and whistle available for those models -- and the mags are interchangeable.

While I might prefer more powerful cartridges theoretically, I am very comfortable with the 380 ACP.

The rest of my rotation/EDC options are a Kimber CDP Ultra (3") in 45, Browning HP in 357 Sig, and Dan Wesson Guardian in 38 Super. All of them have the same manual of arms, same safeties, same mag release location, same slide stop location, and similar sights.

Preferences play a big role in any decision. I just wanted to make sure all my carry guns operated the same way to avoid any "slip and capture" errors under stress.

I can pocket carry my p365. If you are ok with .380 a Ruger LCP is tiny. But mine has a terrible trigger.

I've got my Ruger LCP Max on me right now as I type this. I'm about to head out the door to a therapy session for my wrist/arm. In Florida the standard is shorts and a T-shirt because of the heat/humidity. So while I normally carry either the P365X or XL, when I want/need the smallest/lightest package I carry the Max.

Much easier to shoot that the LCP or LCP2 since the grip was redesigned yet still fits any holster the LCP2 fits into. Just over 10 ounces (unloaded). Great for pocket carry and of course ankle (if in long pants) or a small, unobtrusive IWB holster. I carry it normally in a no-name brand kydex IWB holster and it's been great. Have a spare mag in an Ammo Armor holder in the offside pocket.

I have two.
1). Ruger LCP ( version 1 & 2. I like 1 better)
2). S&W j-frame .38sp +p

My only go to pocket gun for is a LCP custom. Not much else fits for me including my j-frame.

I have recently purchased the Ruger LCP Max for that purpose- and I did have quiet a few issues with it right away. Sent it back to Ruger twice- new barrel, slide, mag, and recoil spring. Finally it runs straight- so I carry it often. ( what a trip!)
But my old standby that never let me down is a Kahr CT380. It only has a 7 round mag and a slightly longer grip than most, and it has a longer trigger pull that I really like (ed: don't like)- but it is absolutely trustworthy. A 7 round gun that actually works is far better that a 10 or 12 rounder that fails even occasionally.

Only pocket gun I carry is my Ruger LCP Max. Light weight, small, easy on the pocket 'sag'.

442 Airweight or my P365 in a sticky holster for pocket carry.

Pocket or ankle carry is the same for me: S&W 442. I use DeSantis holsters for both.

standard P365 with a flush 10 round magazine. It's quite a bit smaller than my hands and I wear loose fit clothing. Sometimes I wouldn't mind something smaller for pants/shorts with smaller pockets but.. then I remember what I'd be giving up.
