What kind of target is this?

Sorry if this is obvious but what’s the square for other than to shoot it…? :unsure:

When you have optics such as a red dot on a rifle you aim at the square and the rounds should land in the bullzeye when zeroing up close at cqb distances.

For benchrest, what's the point of the box like that? I know on our red dot zeroing targets the point, but I do think you are correct about benchrest as well. Most of the zeroing targets we had circles not squares, I just assumed they used a square and applied same principle here and thought this was a zeroing target.

It's a benchrest group target. You don't want to shoot out the POA, so you crank it up and make a group in the box.

Not EXACTLY the same, but we use something very similar to the OPs example for exactly the above purpose during initial rifle training.
