Sure, there are past Sig pistols that would get Sig enthusiasts vote due to longevity, but the most significant vote these days are the votes people cast with their dollars. Included in this idea might be the vote that people cast by the gun they carry every day. Today that would be the P365 series of pistols. When/if the day comes that open carry is as common as wearing jeans or shorts, then one of the larger guns might come to mind sooner. Just another opinion, though.

My choice is the p229 legion the newest carry size. Got with me now. After would be my p320 45, or my p320 9mm them my 365 and my 1911 compact lastly would be my p220 nightmare that I will eventually trade

P229 legion is my favorite too, but it's a smaller 226, so I gotta go with the daddy of the two for an answer.

Curious what you think, is it the P220? P226? Has the P320 asserted its self in brand association?

Like... if you were going to purchase a pistol that was the quintessential SIG pistol, which one is it?

For me it would be the P220,P226 and P229 series. All excellent hammer fired guns. Also I’m over 50 so there’s that.😎

Like others have said, today it would have to be the P365. It's been the home run that SIG had been swinging for. I'm happy for their success in the very competitive CCW marketplace.

The second part of the original post asked about which SIG I would buy.

Well, there seems to be a very clear delineation on this forum, by age of the poster. Old "fudds" like me are supposed to like "classic" SIGs and the guys and girls who are uh...still wet behind the ears...are supposed to like something "in plastic please".

The SIG that I'd buy today is the P232 or P230 in .32acp.
That was the first SIG that caught my attention at a time in my life when I was deeply involved with revolvers.

The sleek design just seems like a piece of jewelry in it's execution. I've owned a couple of PPKs and even a Polish P64 but never the sleek P230/P232.

Anyway, that's the Fudd Gun for me.

the quintessential Colt handgun would be a fight between the SAA, 1911 & Snake guns...
So the quintessential SIG would be a fight between the
P220, P226, P320, P365..
I vote for the P226... it opened the world to SIG SAUER handguns.

P226 although close behind are P220 and P229. Just like a BMW motorcycle equals a flat twin for many or a Harley is a V-twin, a Sig is a metal pistol.

I think it’s a matter of knowledge and experience. As a new shooter starting in 2020 my first purchase was a P365XL so then I had no clue about others. Over time now I view the Sig Pro series P220/P226/P229/P2022 hammer-fired pistols as the quintessential Sig Pistols and I own the P238/P938/P365XL&SAS and the P320 Compact in 9mm and 357 Sig as well as the Pro Series except the P220.

Still my EDC is a Kimber Ultra Carry II 3” 45ACP but that happened over time. I’m now gravitating more towards my M11a1/P229 as an EDC especially in winter.
