Curious what you think, is it the P220? P226? Has the P320 asserted its self in brand association?

Like... if you were going to purchase a pistol that was the quintessential SIG pistol, which one is it?

A while back I would have said the P-228....in my mind- the greatest handgun ever made.

Fast forward to now- the 365.

220/226/229 with the family being 47 yo and still selling well
P320/365 are relative newcomers. We seem to be in the Decade of the micro 9mm so could be the 365 one day. Let's check back in four more decades.

I've long thought the P226 was the quintessential SIG. DA/SA hammer-fired pistols are what I most associate with the brand.

My striker-fired pistols are Glocks. Hammer-fired are SIGs. I like to keep it simple.

When I first started in the public safety field SIG P228 was the most sought after brand at the time and most other agencies started using them if not the Glock or S&W guns.

Historically, the P226. That is the pistol on which much of the company's reputation was built over the last 3 to 4 decades...but now, it's the P365. Without a doubt.

I think the P226 put Sig on the map with 'general' handgun fans even though it was based on an earlier P220 (the Browning BDM versions notwithstanding). It certainly did with me when I was growing up and the 'wonder nines' started becoming all the rage. It seemed big and blocky, but it also had cool, elegant lines and exuded quality. Then found out that it was neck-and-neck with the Beretta in the running for the US military sidearm, and between the two I liked the Sig better anyway.

That was the Sig that I fell in love with and why I keep a classic folded-steel slide P226 in my collection even though I shoot other guns more.
