I think the P226 put Sig on the map with 'general' handgun fans even though it was based on an earlier P220 (the Browning BDM versions notwithstanding). It certainly did with me when I was growing up and the 'wonder nines' started becoming all the rage. It seemed big and blocky, but it also had cool, elegant lines and exuded quality. Then found out that it was neck-and-neck with the Beretta in the running for the US military sidearm, and between the two I liked the Sig better anyway.

That was the Sig that I fell in love with and why I keep a classic folded-steel slide P226 in my collection even though I shoot other guns more.
