Hopefully the mods will allow an M17/ M18 thread to be stickied. The military version of these great pistols deserves it's own place. I'll start it off. Sorry for the bad cell phone pics, I can't actually pick mine up until Thursday, because the LGS got it in too late to enter it in the system last night.

So far it seems to be in incredibly good shape. Most of the discoloration I think is oil, I'm interested to see how new it looks with a good cleaning. There is a scuff on the grip module beavertail, and the clerk joked that it was "the one" they used for the drop tests. :lol: The barrel stamping matches the slide, so it's definitely not a parts gun. (Edited: I just discovered the barrel number on mine is the same as on another forum member's pistol. Evidently the MFR# and PN# are the same for all M17's? Can someone confirm this?)

Now that I got the ball rolling, M17/ M18 owners, please post your photos up, even if you already put them in other threads elsewhere. If this gets enough views and posts, maybe we can get it stickied.

Jedi, would you post some pics of your surplus m17 when you get it? I'd like to see the underside of the slide where the disconnector would be. I'd also like to see the sights because I read they're outlined in a different color than those on the p320-m17. Thanks.

Thank you for the pic. I read that the issued contract pistols in final form didn't have the OOB trigger disconnector. If that was/is true, is it possible that Sig upgraded these surplus pistols after the Army released them to Sig? Or perhaps we'll never know.

I'd love to see a similar pic of a current issued m17/m18- that would settle it.

Now that's interesting! I'd always wondered whether the optics plate/ sight combo was held in place by friction alone, or if there was a screw system in place. So you screw it on from underneath the slide? And only 1 screw, I take it?

Correct. You twist the extractor plunger with a T15, remove the rear plate and striker then the screw is visible. It’s a T15 as well.

I just got mine this afternoon and was going to detail strip it when I noticed the extractor plunger was a Torx. I didn't have any with me, and was wondering what size it would be. I appreciate the info!

You have to compress the extractor plunger inward about 1/16 of a inch. Then rotate one half turn either clockwise or counterclockwise. Plunger will come out easily. I use a 1/4 inch nut driver with a 1/4 inch T15 torx bit. Straight on with no scratches.

Thanks, I’m not a fan of too many tools for stripping just to that level. I’ll likely replace mine with the standard black OEM part.

The torx extractor plunger is unique in color and style. Be sure to save it, as I'm not sure how long there will be a replacement available from Sig. They changed over to black torx for military guns.

I'll be saving all the original parts. I've already changed out the grip module, but will be saving it as well of course.
