Dammit!

I finally decided I wanted one (maybe both) of the 5.25" and 4.5" XD-M 10mm, but haven't seen any for a while. I just checked the website again and they are now marked Discontinued.

😭

I really wanted the 5.25" in FDE. I believe the FDE ones were a Davidson's exclusive.

Well I'm seriously bummed.

They've been discontinuing a bunch of models lately. Seems like they are aggressively trimming down their lineup.

Like this one?
I haven’t followed Springfield so not sure if 800 is fair or not??
Well, I wanted a new one, and none of that stuck on grip tape.
But the FDE one I really wanted is the 5.25" (long slide) version, below.
But now, I would probably take a black one.

And I really didn't want to buy used.

It might be a supply chain issue and they have just dropped them temporarily (although I would think they would put "Temporarily Unavailable" instead of "Discontinued".

They do list the XDM Elite in 10mm with a 3.8" barrel as "New" so there may be some longer barrel replacements coming soon.

Yeah, I actually looked at one of those compacts this past Friday. No way in hell I would be able to maintain a grip on that thing with anything above a "40 Short & Weak" load. Not only is the grip too short for my hand, but the damned thing is slick as glass! No wonder people wrap them in that ugly skateboard tape. I figured the full-size wouldn't be much joy either.
I had planned to go today to look at the new S&W M2.0 10mm models recently released, but I couldn't make it before they would be closing. Now, I have to wait another week.

After two years I finally found one used but just barely. I love the way it shoots.

I was excited to see M&P come out with the 10mm but after handling one in the shop and hearing about the problems I am not so excited. The grip is extremely rough the trigger is just OK. The Springfield was next to it on consignment and after handling them both it was an easy decision for me. Hopefully the M&P 10mm takes off and they work the bugs out of it and make a 5" version.

Can someone explain to me the benefit of 10mm outside hunting? IIRC the FBI adopted it for a whole 30 seconds before deciding it was too hard to control and creating 40 slow and weak. It seems like 10mm is becoming increasingly popular in carry/duty guns but I'm unclear on why. Not bashing 10, just curious.

I think it's because 10mm is a very versatile round - it can be loaded at what is essentially 40 S&W strength all the way up to full-bore with impressive ballistics, even on large animals. It is quickly becoming the standard where I live with professional hunting guides, and general outdoorsmen, as the caliber to have in big bear country.

I don't personally find 10mm to be a hard round to control at all - given that it's shot out of a proper platform. It is certainly a very effective SD load in the right hands, and can flex well beyond that.

I currently have an XDm Elite 3.8” in 9mm. It’s a great shooter. I removed the mag well because it felt awkward. I think it would be a real handful in 10 mm. Probably more than I would want.
However, in the 5.25 Comp, (or maybe even a 4.5), it could be more comfortable.
I sold my 5.25 9mm because I just wasn’t comfortable with it. My daughter shot the heck out of it but prefers smaller platforms.
In 10mm, I think it might be a nice choice. It may be worth pursuing. I would think that they are still out there.
